The publications within “Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing” are
primarily proceedings of important conferences, symposia and congresses. They
cover significant recent developments in the field, both of a foundational and
applicable character. An important characteristic feature of the series is the short
publication time and world-wide distribution. This permits a rapid and broad
dissemination of research results.

Preface
It is a matter of pride that 5th International Conference on Harmony Search, Soft
Computing and Applications (ICHSA 2019) was organized at Kunming, China,
during July 20–22, 2019. ICHSA Conference has a glorious history; the earlier
editions of the conference were organized at South Korea, Spain and India. This
fifth edition of ICHSA were organized in a joint meeting of 15th International
Conference on Natural Computation, Fuzzy Systems and Knowledge Discovery
(ICNC-FSKD 2019) along with the ICHSA community. The first and the second
meetings of the conferences were held at Korea University, South Korea, third
meeting of ICHSA was held at Bilbao, Spain, and the fourth meeting was held at
BML Munjal University, Gurugram, India. This book is an outcome of the papers
presented at ICHSA 2019.
In this book, a collection of good articles have been edited on various topics
related to harmony search and soft computing techniques. The balance of swarm
intelligence, evolutionary algorithms and their various real-life applications are
compiledtoprovidetheconsolidatedstate-of-the-artstatusofresearchgoinginthis
area. A deep discussion on neural networks is presented for the forecasting, image
processing and its other applications. Few articles are presented to address the
current challenges in water resource systems and their solutions using soft
computing techniques. A similar study is included in seismic events and the
earthquake engineering solutions. Some recent advances in harmony search
algorithm are added for the researchers working on this. The suitability of soft
computing techniques in big data, crowd evacuation strategies, adaptive learning
system, economic impact analysis, cyber-attack detection, urban drainage system,
water management model, feature selection and inventory systems is presented in
this book.
In conclusion, the edited book comprises papers on diverse aspects of soft
computing techniques such as nature-inspired optimization algorithms,
metaheuristics and their application in areas, such as water resources, urban

drainage systems and robotics, pattern recognition, forecasting models and
optimization of complex real-life as well as test problems. There are theoretical
aspects of the topics mentioned here along with the empirical studies.
