Dedication This book is dedicated to my parents, Nathan and Rose Goodheart, who instilled in me the importance of something they were deprived of — a good education. Their love, sacrifices, and encouragement have allowed me to pursue my career in medicine. I also dedicate it to my beloved sister and brother Myra Krenzel and Bernie Goodheart. My love and thanks also go to my in-laws, Dr. Norman Schneeberg and Helen Schneeberg, who have been supportive of me all along the way and who allowed me to marry their daughter, Karen. 01_746983 ffirs.qxp 11/29/05 8:33 PM Page iv 01_746983 ffirs.qxp 11/29/05 8:33 PM Page v Author’s Acknowledgments This project proved to be far from a solo effort.
