3 SECTION1.SHORTTITLE.
4 This Act maybe cited as the ''Ambulance Services
5 Actof1997".
6 SEC. 2. MEDICARE COVERAGE OF CERTAIN AMBULANCE
7 SERVICES.

8 (a)Coverage. Section1861(s)(7)oftheSocialSe-
9 curityAct(42U.S.C. 1395x(s)(7))isamendedbystriking
10 "reg;ulations;" and inserting "regulations, except that

1 suchregulationsshallnotfailtotreatambulanceservices
2 asmedicalandotherhealthservicessolelybecause,inthe
3 case ofan emergency, the individual is transportedto a
4 clinicortoanambulatorysurgicalcenter;".

5 (b) Effective Date. The amendment made by
6 subsection (a) shall applyto items and services provided
7 onorafterthedateofenactmentofthisAct.
