6 SEC. 2. MEDICARE COVERAGE OF BONE MASSMEASURE-
7 MENTS.

8 (a) InGeneral. Section 1861 ofthe Social Secu-
9 rityAct(42U.S.C.1395x)isamended—

1 (1)insubsection(s)
2 (A) in paragraph (12)(C), by striking
3 "and" attheend,
4 (B) by striking the period at the end of %.
5 paragi'aph(14) andinserting";and",
6 (C) by redesignating paragraphs (15) and
7 (16) asparagraphs (16) and (17), respectively,
8 and
9 (D) by inserting after paragraph (14) the
10 followingnewparagraph:
11 "(15) bone mass measurement (as defined in
12 subsection(oo)).";and
13 (2) by inserting after subsection (nn) the fol-
14 lowingnewsubsection:
15 "BoneMassMeasurement
16 "(oo)(l) The term 'bone mass measurement' means
17 a radiologic or radioisotopic procedure or other scientif-
18 icallyproventechnologyperformedonaqualifiedindivid-
19 ual(asdefinedinparagraph(2))forthepurposeofidenti-
20 fyingbonemassordetectingboneloss.
21 "(2) Forpurposesofparagraph (1),theterm'quali-
22 fiedindividual'meansanindi\ddualwhois (inaccordance
23 withregulationsprescribedbytheSecretary)
24 "(A) an estrogen-deficient woman at clinical
25 riskforosteoporosis;

1 "(B) anindividualwithvertebralabnormalities;
2 *'(C) an individual receiving long-term
3 glucocorticoidsteroidtherapy;
4 "(D) an individual vvith primary
5 hypeiparatliyroidism;or
6 "(E) an individual being monitored to assess
7 the response to or efficacy of an approved
8 osteoporosisdrugtherapy.".

9 (b) ConformingAmendments. Sections 1864(a),
10 1865(a), 1902(a)(9)(C), and 1915(a)(l)(B)(ii)(I) of the
11 Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 1395aa(a), 1395bb(a),
12 1396a(a)(9)(C), and 1396n(a)(l)(B)(ii)(I)) are amended
13 by striking "paragraphs (15) and (16)" each place such
14 term appears andinserting "paragraphs (16) and (17)".
