INCREASE IN UPDATE FOR CERTAIN HOS- 4 PITALSWITHAfflGHPROPORTIONOFMEDI- 5 CAREPATIENTS. 6 Section 1886(b)(3) of the Social Security Act (42 7 U.S.C. 1395ww(b)(3)) is amendedby adding at the end 8 thefollowingnewsubparagraph: — 2 1 "(F)(i) For purposes of subsection (d), in the case 2 ofamedicare-dependent hospital described in clause (ii), 3 the appHeable percentage increase otherwise determined 4 undersubparagraph(B)(i)shallbeincreasedby 5 "(I) 0.5 percentagepointsfordischarges occur- 6 ring during cost reportingperiods beginning during 7 fiscalyear1998,and 8 "(n) 0.3 percentage points for discharges oc- 9 curringduringcostreportingperiodsbeginningdur- 10 ingfiscalyear1999, 11 "(ii)Ahospitaldescribedinthisclausewithrespect 12 to a cost reporting period is a subsection (d) hospital 13 meetingthefollowingrequirements: 14 "(I) Not less than 60 percent ofthe hospital's 15 inpatientdaysduringthemostrecentcostreporting 16 period for which data is available were attributable 17 toinpatientsentitledtobenefitsunderpartA. 18 "(n) The hospital does not receive any addi- 19 tional payment amount under subsection (d)(5)(F) 20 (relating to payments for hospitals serving a dis- 21 proportionate number of low-income patients) with 22 respect to discharges occurring during the fiscal 23 year. 24 "(HI) The hospital does not receive any addi- 25 tional payment amount under subsection (d)(5)(B) m •HR1673 3 (relatingtopaymentfortheindirectcostsofmedical education) orsubsection (h) (relatingtopaymentfor directmedicaleducationcosts).
