Proposals for amendments or additions to the text of this publication are to be made in accor- dance with paragraphs 21 and 22 of the Preface. 2. It is certified that the amendments promulgated in the undermentioned amendment list have been made in this publication. Amendments Amended by Date of (Printed name and initials) Amending Number Date RESTRICTED RESTRICTED III PREFACE Purpose of Repair Parts Scale 1. This Repair Parts Scale (RPS) is an entitlement document raised by MATERIEL BRANCH DIRECTORATE OF CAPITAL PROCUREMENT, REPAIR PARTS SCALES SECTION, to authorise Units, Technical Support Sub- Units and Workshops that have the trade qualified personnel and facilities to draw those repair parts to which they are entitled, for the repair and maintenance of the Defence inventory of equipment. Basis of Scale 2. The RPS is assessed on the premise that a maintainable item is any essential repair part or accessory which, through deterioration, breakage, normal wear and tear or loss is likely to require replacement during the expected life of the equipment, and is an item which could not be economically repaired or fabricated in Workshops. Stocking Quantities 3. Stocking quantities are not shown in this RPS but are available on request trom: MATERIEL BRANCH, DIRECTORATE OF CAPITAL PROCUREMENT, REPAI R PARTS SCALES SECTION, P.O. BOX 1932R, GPO MELBOURNE, 3001. 4. The following information is required with each stocking quantity forcast: a. Equipment asset NSN, b. Number of equipments supported, c. Duration of support in months, d. Repair level, U, F. or B, and e. Forcast title, if required. How to use RPS 5. Refer to the Group Index page of the RPS to locate the page number of the group reqUired. 6. Refer to the Group Illustration and identify the item required by its illustration number. 7. Refer the illustration number to the group item number (column 2) to obtain the designation, manufact- urers' detail, number off per assembly, expendability and level of repair details. 8. The NATO Stock Number (NSN) is obtained by noting the Serial Number (column 1) of the item required and referring it to the Serial Number Sequence Index. 9. If the NSN of an item is known, refer to the NSN Sequence Index to find the Serial Number of the item. Illustrated and Non-Illustrated Items 10. Against each item is shown (column 2): a. A group item number consisting of a letter(s) and number which identifies the component shown on the illustrated plate. e9: AS 007 - indicates item number 7 on illustration group AB. b. Unillustrated items are identified by an item number of 000. eg: AB 000 . indicates that the item is not illustrated and only appears in the text of the group AB. Scaled Items 11. Scaled items are indicated as such by having the letters U, ForB printed in the Level of Repair Column. A NSN is contained in the indexes for all scaled items. 12. Due to delays in cataloguing not all items in RPS which are intended to be scaled have been catalogued. The intention of cataloguing of items can be identified by the notation U, F or B in the Level of Repair Column. As soon as this action is complete a new issue of the RPS will be released. Thus in some cases the indexes detailed in paras 8 and 9 may not be included in all RPS. 13. RESERVED. RESTRICTED RESTRICTED IV Non Scaled Items 14. Non Scaled items have the Level of Repair columns blank and do not appear in either the NSN or Serial Number Indexes. 15. Requests for such items are to be carefully examined by units, Workshops and Trade Repair Sections before preparing indents. 16. Where Manufacturers codes and part numbers are not shown they are available on request from REPAIR PARTS SCALES SECTION. 17. Supply Units on receipt of indents for Non Scaled Items are to refer them to the Senior RAEME Represent· ative in the formation requesting advice as to whether the item can be fabricated in Workshops. If this is not feasible the Senior RAEME Representative will advise the Senior RAAOC Representative and request immediate provision action. 18. RESERVED. Scales Change Requests (SI 46) (7530·66·106·0115). 19. Scales Change Requests may be raised by: a. Senior RAEME Representatives, if they consider that previously non scaled items could become a recurring requirement; or b. Units, Repair Elements. Supply Company's or Battalions who find through user experience that the scale is inadequate either by range or quantity of repair parts, and c. Personal who have identified, errors or omissions in the text and illustrations. 20. Scales Change Requests should be forwarded on the approved form to the address noted in paragraph 3. 21. Scales Change Requests will be acknowledged by Repair Parts Scales Section. If a change is approved an amendment to the RPS will be issued. 22. It is emphasized that Units. Workshops and Sup Coy/Bn are free to adjust their holdings immediately user experience indicates the need for this. Adjustment action does not require prior approval of a Scales Change Re- quest. The latter is required by Scales so that RPS which may be used for subsequent initial stocking of repair parts reflect the latest usage experience. Amendments 23. Amendments to this RPS will be notified in the Supply Bulletin. 24. Amendments to this RPS will be issued in the form of replacement numerical indexes and replacement pages. Distribution 25. This RPS, amendments to RPS and reissue of RPS are distributed automatically to authorised recipients. Notification of these pUblications are advised in the Supply Bulletin. 26. Additional copies are available on request to: MATERIEL BRANCH. DIRECTORATE OF CAPITAL PROCUREMENT, REPAIR PARTS SCALE SECTION (DISTRIBUTION), P.O. BOX 1932R. GPO MELBOURNE, 3001. 27. Requests, either in signal or memo form, should show justification and whether the request is additional to copies already held or replacement copies. This advice will be used to vary quantities of any future issues and/or amendments. 28. Where this RPS is an issue 2 or SUbsequent issue, it supercedes all previous issues, copies of which should be destroyed. RESTRICTED 81'46 Oepartment of Oet.fIt:.
