Modeling and integrating the medical big data with IoT help in building effective prediction systems for automatic recommenda- tion of diagnosis and treatment. Machine-learning techniques, related algorithms, methods, tools, standards, andinfrastructuresareusedformodelingtheprediction systems and management of the data; the main concerns being provision of pri- vacy, security, establishment of standards, scalability, availability, user friendly, andcontinuousimprovementoftoolsandtechnologies. This book addresses the issues and challenges related to development, imple- mentation, and applications of automatic and intelligent prediction and decision supportsystemsinhealthcare.Alsoincludedaretheapplicationsofintelligentpre- dictionalgorithmsinthedevelopmentofspeakerandgesturerecognitionsystems/ software. Feature selection is an important step in everyday data mining, maintaining the interpretability of the final models, which is especially important for research- ersandprofessionalsdevelopingintelligentsystemsforbiomedicine. In Chapter1, Alan Jovic provides an in-depth overview of the various feature selection ap- proacheswitha specialfocus onbiomedicalsignal classification, includingfilters, wrappers, embeddedmethods, andvarioushybridapproaches. Intelligentdecisionsupportsystemshelpdermatologistintheirdiagnosisinde- tectingandclassifyingskinlesions.InChapter2,Sabrietal.presentanoverviewof image-processing algorithms with respect to image segmentation, features engi- neering, and classification algorithms, with a special focus on ABCD (asymmetry, border, color, anddiameter)rules. TodetecttheMRIimagesefficientlyandtolocatethetumorpositionaccurately, Ishita et al. in Chapter 3 used support vector machine technique, an equalization technique called contrast limited adaptive histogram equalization, and an adap- tively regularized kernel fuzzy C-means clustering algorithm, threshold algorithm, andmorphologicaloperations.Theproposedmethoddecreasesthevarianceofthe prediction error and increases the flexibility to detect the nature of the tumor that canextendhelpinghandstothemedicalpractitioners. Chapter 4 addresses and analyzes various machine-learning algorithms to aid decision-makingofhealthyandcoronaryheartdisease(CHD)patientswithrespect toaccuracy,execution,andsensitivity,andprovesthatthedecisiontree-basedge- neticapproachpredictstheCHDpatientwithhighaccuracy.
