The driver was _uninjured, b'f the _ airbags caused $2000·worth of damage. · How to quaUfy for the switch .There are specific rules about who can qualify for an · on/off airbag switch: • Those who have vehicles.·without a back seat, or a bacK seat too small to properly handle a child-safety seat. • Those who suffer from specific medical conditions, Iikeneart problems requiring a pacemaker, or tintinnitis, a hearing problem in which extremely loud noises (like airbag deployment) could cause permanent deafness. • Smaller-sized adults and drivers whQ must transport chiiOrcm in the front seat. To be certifie~ car owners must fill out a "risk group" question and answer sheet and read a bulletin from NHTSA. These forms may be. obtained from state motor vehicle offices, ~dealers and repair shops. Or· it may be downloaded ;from NHTSA's web site at http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov.
