I would like to acknowledge the following people for what they have done for me over the past year and beyond. Dr. Jeanette Cates continues to be the most influential person in my life, both personally and professionally. Her insights and perceptions as to what works when running a global business are right on target. To be able to learn from someone who is an icon in the Internet marketing space is a dream come true for me. I would like to acknowledge Armand Morin for the dedication and encouragement he provides on an ongoing basis. Armand leads the Mastermind group I have been involved in since 2009, and his leadership knows no limits. Pat O'Bryan is one of those people you meet just once in your lifetime. He feels like the big brother I always wanted, even though he is only a few months older than me. Pat has the wisdom of the ages at his disposal, and everyone whose life he touches benefits from the power in that. I can always count on Pat to guide me in a way that will enhance my life experience, and he nudges me ever so slightly when I stray from that path. 6 Geoff Hoff has become a friend, mentor, confidant, and student, filling each role with ease and grace. It is so important to connect with people who are ascending the ladder of success in a similar time and place as you, and Geoff is that person for me. As I think about my life over the past ten years or more, the one person who stands head and shoulders above the rest is Raymond Aaron. He was my very first mentor, and started me down the path that would ultimately change my life. When he had me take all of the keys off of my keychain except for the ones I needed every day, something shifted in my psyche and I have never been quite the same. 7 Forewords If you wanted to write the perfect scenario for “new marketer rises to the top” you couldn‟t pick a better star than Connie Ragen Green. Like most people who are new online, Connie spent some time exploring different avenues of revenue. But she easily settled into affiliate income as one of her main streams of income. Why? Because she‟s good at it! So what does it take to be a successful (and profitable) affiliate marketer? Connie‟s taken a whole book to give you all the details. But let me give you a few of the qualities that Connie possesses that make her a top-level affiliate. She cares about her clients. While she promotes a variety of programs to her subscribers, she is always careful to ensure the products and programs she recommends are appropriate for her list. And she has no qualms about telling an individual client that a particular product is not right for them – and recommending a replacement. Her first concern is always what is best for her client. She is generous. She has built her affiliate promotions on offering bonuses – from personal coaching to full courses to special reports. She always considers what the best complement to the offer will be – then creates or locates it. 8 She is competitive. Given an affiliate contest, she will put heat on all of the other affiliates – challenging everyone to take their game up a notch. Yet in spite of the increased competition, Connie comes out on top – time after time. She‟s been my top affiliate for more than a year – and she‟s beat me more than once in affiliate competitions. These three qualities – care, generosity, and competitiveness – may not be topics that Connie talks about overtly. But they are there, underlying her magical methods for affiliate marketing. I know you will enjoy this book. Just be sure you honor Connie by applying the knowledge you gain from it in your business. She expects nothing less! Jeanette S. Cates, PhD Online Success Strategist & Coach JeanetteCates.com June 2011 I haven't known Connie long, just since September 2010, but I feel a great deal of connection between us, because of 9 her background, her style, and her success. We both were successful in our "past lives" in vastly different ways, and now our paths have merged. You probably know Connie's past history, so just a brief bit about mine... My first entrepreneurial endeavor was sort of as a teacher, but different than Connie's teaching. I taught adults about software, and traveled the country to do so. It was difficult with a family, including a young son, but it was necessary at the time. After burning out from all the travel, I settled down by opening a small retail store in my home town. It was a good idea then, and worked well, until the economy collapsed for my little niche (collectibles, a very discretionary sort of purchase decision). I made do for a while by selling on eBay, and actually continued that for 13 years until recently, and though that did work out very well, again the economy, increased fees and competition, and other factors dragged down the income. Beginning in about 2002 I discovered Internet marketing. I knew it could work if I did, but for 3 long years it just flat out failed for me. If only I had Connie's training back then, things wouldn't have been so difficult. Fortunately, in 2005 I figured out what would work for me, and was able to start earning a livable income. 10
