Eine theoretische Fundierung dieser vielfältigen und teils widersprüchlichen Gebrauchsformen liegt bislang nur in Ansätzen vor.</p> <p>Von diesem Befund geht die komparatistisch angelegte Untersuchung aus, in der in Rekurs auf die Forschung und in Abgrenzung zu benachbarten Kategorien ein Begriff des Wunderbaren erarbeitet wird, der eine diachrone Analyse dreier stofflich verwandter Romane erlaubt: des altfranzösischen <i>Bel Inconnu</i>, des mittelhochdeutschen <i>Wigalois</i> (beide Anfang 13. Jahrhundert) und des frühneuhochdeutschen <i>Wigoleis vom Rade</i> (1483). Der Fokus der Analyse gilt dem Funktionswandel des Wunderbaren, d.h. den Veränderungen, die sich beim Transfer des Erzählkerns aus dem französischen in den deutschen Kulturraum einerseits, vom Hoch- zum Spätmittelalter andererseits abzeichnen, sowie der Frage, ob diese Veränderungen auf ein Paradigma bezogen werden können wie die bekannte These von der 'Entzauberung der Welt'. Es geht jedoch auch um ein Verständnis des einzelnen Textes vor der Folie seiner jeweiligen Vorlage. Das Wunderbare erweist sich dabei als eine äußerst aspektreiche und funktional zu differenzierende Kategorie.</p>
