He learned g g somethin of the Hearst method from his work on the urnal and g Io the necessity to compete with reporters on the Hearst papers. Later ’ ’ he was assi ned to the State s Attorney s office durin the heyday g g ’ of Capone O Bannion and other Chica o an leaders workin , g g g , g in the newspaper milieu depicted by Hecht and MacArthur in The Front Pa e. g In 1 26 Mr. Lundber left what he calls this turmoil to join 9 g the staff of the United Press and was transferred to New York in - April of 1 2 . He covered the take oil s of Lindber h Byrd and , 9 7 g Chamberlain . Toward the end of 1 2 he joined the Wall Street 9 7 staff of the New York Herald Tribune. He was coverin the Stock g - Exchan e durin the crash of 1 2 and wrote all the front pa e g g 9 9 g “ ” stories of that debacle and attended all of the emer ency banker , g - press conferences throu hout 1 1 .
