Your Body's Many Cries for Water Many illnesses which today plague millions of people worldwide spring from a simple unrecognised cause - we don't drink enough water! Whenourbodies eventuallycry outpainfullyin protest,we call these desperate thirst signals asthma, diabetes, arthritis, angina, obesity, Alzheimer's, high cholesterol and hypertension among other maladies. This is the breakthrough medical discovery that Iranian-born Dr Batmanghelidj outlines in this extraordinary book - and if we drank more water daily, he maintains, many of the degenerative diseases could be prevented or even cured. Dr Batmanghelidj first discovered the curativepowers of waterin an overcrowded Tehran prison where he was held during the 1979revolu tion. One day in desperation he prescribed the only medication avail able for one of 3,000terrified inmateswhowas literally dyingof acute stomach pain - a single glass of water. The man recovered within minutes. In that moment, he asserts, 'anew era in the advancementof medical science was born.' After his release Dr B escaped to the United States to begin further research intowater as a medication. Largely ignored by the American Medical Association after presenting his findings to them nearly 20 years ago, his response was to write this book to support many metic ulous, peer-reviewed scientific articles. Your Body'sMany Cries for Waterhas alreadysold overaquarterof a million copies in the United States alone. It has also been published in Iran, India, Slovenia, France and Germany. Many testi monial letters from readers and medical specialists alike included in this new Britisheditionamplyconfirmthe effectivenessofhis method. Dr Batmanghelidj passionately believes that if his findings were widely adopted, billionsof dollarscouldbe loppedfrom annualhealth care budgets in all advanced countries - greatly reducing ourdepend ence on manufactured drugs from the giant pharmaceutical companies. But ultimately, he says, the bookshould be read as a love story, like a novel which describes 'the beautiful and compelling love relationship between water and the human body.' Since then, it has been repeatedly reprinted in the United States, often several times each year.Translated editions have also been published in a number of European countries, including Germany and France. Alltold, more than a quarterofa million copies ofthis remarkable and increasingly influential book have now been printed. Since first publication, the author's revolutionary health message has remained essentially unchanged. However, for this new and revised UKedition,he has addedan up-to-date postscript.Itdescribes fullyfor the first time his persistent, but so far unsuccessful, efforts to persuade medical authorities in the United States and elsewhere to investigate and endorse his proven discovery ofthe simple curative and preventive powers ofincreased daily water consumption in the context ofgeneral good health and many degenerative illnesses. From all countries where the book has been read or published to date, including the United Kingdom, many readers have written to the author describing the various health improvements they have experienced after reading his work and sharing its information with their medical advisers. These positive responses continually provide fresh corroboration of Dr Batmanghelidj's findings.TheTagman Press strongly supports the author's efforts to make these health benefits more widely known in the UKand beyond, with aview to redirectingsome ofthe vast medical resourcescurrently,in the author'sopinion, beingwasted on unnecessary drug treatments. We will swiftly forward any letters from readers to Dr Batmanghelidj, to add to the positive store of practical personal experiences that are so valuable in expanding knowledge and promoting his unique health care message. This endeavourbecameverysuccessful - until the politicalvolcano erupted asthe angrymassesengaged in the violentoverthrowofthe Shah and the Iranian government. And there was a tragic side to this historic event.Almost all the professional and creative peoplewho had stayedin the countrywere rounded up and taken to prison to be investigated, tried and 'dealt with' as quickly as possible. Some were shot on the first day or two. Theirrevolutionary trialsconsisted simply of establishment of identity and pronouncement ofguilt, followed by sentence. The trial would last no more than ten minutes.Others were given a little more time before being'processed'. I was lucky to be among the lattergroup. I suppose my skills as a doctor were useful to the prison authorities, explaining the delay in my being processed. Evin Prison in Tehran, where I was held for two years and seven months, was built for 600 persons. At one point, it was 'sardine packed' with 8,000 to 9,000 people. At the height of revolutionary fervour, when segregating different political factions, the authorities used cells built for six to eight to isolate up to 90 people. One third would lie down, one third would squat and one third had to stand. Every few hours, the prisoners would rotate position. The nightmareoflifeanddeath in that hell-hole haunted everyone and tested the mettle of both strong and weak. This was when the human body revealed to me some of its greatest secrets - secrets never understood by the medical profession. For most of the prisoners, who ranged in age from 14 to 80, the pressures of the exceptionally harsh life caused much stress and ill health. Destiny must have chosen me to be there to help some of these desperate people. One night, about two months into my 5
