Activities in our Active Wellness Program include exercise, computer classes, games, educational workshops, a Farmer’s Market, nutrition education, field trips, and much more. The Active Wellness Program is open Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. A free (and nutritious) lunch is served at noon. Adult Day Health Services (The Weinberg Wellness & Arts Center) Iona’s award-winning Weinberg Wellness & Arts Center supports older adults living with memory loss and/or physical disabilities by offering daily social engagement in a medically-supervised program. Art therapy, exercise, brain-boosting programs, caregiver support, and wellness services help participants and their families thrive. Iona offers a person-centered, holistic approach to care — coupled with a professional staff of registered nurses, certified nursing assistants, program specialists, a social worker, and art therapist. www.iona.org ADVERTISER 7 A BOUT IONA Advocacy Iona has touched tens of thousands of metropolitan DC residents through our efforts to expand quality long-term care choices for older adults with chronic care needs, improve pedestrian safety, and educate the public and government leaders on aging-related concerns. Three advocacy groups, hosted and supported by Iona, are described below: The DC Coalition on Long Term Care (LTC) Comprised of consumers, advocates, and health care providers, the DC Coalition on Long Term Care works to expand quality long-term care options for DC seniors and individuals with disabilities. The DC Coalition advocates for improvements in home care, assisted living, workforce development, and more. Citizens Advisory Group (CAG) The Iona Citizens Advisory Group seeks to draw more attention and resources to the needs of seniors, including continuing opportunities to contribute to the community. As a mini-commission on aging, the Group works to identify critical community issues affecting older adults in Ward 3, promote collaboration among senior groups, and educate the community on aging issues. DC Senior Advisory Coalition (S.A.C.) The S.A.C. seeks to be the unifying voice advocating to improve the quality of life for and with older adults in the District of Columbia; to be the go-to trusted resource in the community on policies and priori- ties for older DC residents, and to work toward a thoughtful and shared community vision of aging and aging services well into the future. 8 ADVERTISER 202.895.9448
