Thenewgenusalsoseemstobeisolatedamongtheknownmembers ofthe tribeAnaglyptinibecauseofthepeculiarityof thetypespecies. Itmayhave somerelationshipwithHit・ticlytus0l-lBAYAsHIendemictoSouthwestJapan. Firstly I wish to expressmy since1-e condolence to thememory of Yoshiaki KoMIYA. Hesuddenlypassedawaybyheart failureon1August2006inthecourseof researchingleaf-beetlesat Inamura-iwa, 0kutamaofwesternTokyo. I firstlymetDi'. KoMIYAinPullCityofcentral TaiwanaboutthirtyyearsagowhenIwasauniversity student. Weusuallywent tothemountainsofcentralTaiwan forco11etingbeetlesin theseyears.Healwaystookmealongwithfriendshipandkindnessinspiteofgeneration gapbeyondtwentyyears,andgavememuchscientificknowledgeincludingcoleoptero1- o9y・ Inthismemorialpaper,IamgoingtoproposeanewanaglyptinegenusforEpiclytus talwanusCHANGoccurringinTaiwan. ThepeculiarityofE taiwanuswasprovisionally suggestedaspersonalcommunicationbyJunITOaboutaquartercenturyago;however, I haveneverundertakenfurtherstudiesforituntilthepresenttime. Thetypespeciesof thenewgenuswaserroneouslydescribedunderaclytinegenusbymisidentificationof theorjgina1author. This interestingspeciesshouldbeplacednot only in thetribe Anaglyptinibutalsoinanewgenusasshowninthefollowinglines. Thenewnameis dedicatedtothelateDr.YoshiakiKoMIYAwhogreatlylovedtheinsectsandnatureof Taiwanduringhislife time. GenusYos11iakioclytusnov Typespecies:Epi lytustaivllanusCHANG,1960. Anaglyptini. Smallanaglyptineofshortandthickbodyincontrastwithverylong andslenderappendages,andclearlyisolatedamongthetribethoughslightlysimilar in faciestoHirticlytus. Bodyblackingeneral,clothedwithdenserecumbentpubescence, partlydecoratedwithmaculationmadebyblackandwhitepubescence. 578 TatsuyaNIlsATo Headshort and less voluminous,slightlynarrowedunder eyes in frontal view, almoststraightlydeclivousinprofile;fronsquadrate,nearlyaslongaswide,quiteeven andonlyweaklyconvex,without anyfurroworcarinaeven thoughatsides;clypeus trapezoidal, membranous except near base, smooth on surface; labrum arcuately roundedatapicalmargin;mandibleshortandbroad, ratherstronglyhookednearapex, withabluntdentatapical2/3;maxillawithratherweaklydevelopedgaleaandlacinia, terminalsegmentofpalpusweaklydilatedapicadevenin ; terminalsegment of labial palpushardlydilatedapicad;eyesobliquedrop-shaped,small thoughstronglypromi- nent, very widely separated fromoneanother; genae large, fairlydeeper than lower eye-lobes; vertexconcaveatmidline,withantennalcavitiesmoderatelyraised, rather widelyseparatedfromoneanother;occiputveryshort. Antennaedistinctlylonger than bodyinbothsexes,withsegments3and4thickenedateachapex,succeedingsegments moreorlessdepressedandslightlythickerthanbasalsegments,scapenearlyquadrate, slightlydepressed,segment3distinctlylonger thansegment4andnearlyequalinlength tosegment5,clothedwithminutevelvetypubescenceinapicalsevensegments,witha sparserowoferecthairsalongundersideofbasalsegments. Pronotumglobose,widestatanteriortomiddle,constrictedatbasewhichisslightly narrower thanapex,hardlyborderedatbothapexandbase,markedlyconvex,provided withapairofpubescentcallositiesatsidesofposteriortomiddle. Scutellummoderate, rounded triangular. Elytrafairlyshort,nearlytwiceaswideasthehumeri,subquadratethoughwidely arcuatelyemarginateatsides,withdistincthumeri,apiceswidelyandnearlytransversely truncate, without any apical teeth; disc moderately convex, provided with a pair of prominentcallositiesnear base. HindwingwithveinPcreduced,onlysclerotizedin apicalhalfandwithoutcrossveinconnectedwithanal vein, IA3十2Awelldeveloped and forminganordinaryH-shape. Prosternumstronglyraisedtowardsapicalmarginofcoxal cavities,withnarrow presternalprocessalmostreachingthelevelofposteriormarginofpleuralprocesswhich isbarelyreachingthelevelofexternalhalfofcoxal cavity. Meso-andmetathoraces fairly reduced, moderatelyconvex;mesosterna1processrelativelybroad,moderately narrowedapicad;mesocoxa1cavitynarrowlyopentometepimeron;metepimeronattain- ingat a level of anterior part of hind coxa. Abdomenbroad andvery short, with stronglytransverseventrites, last ventriteveryshort, weakly( ) ormoderately (早) arcuateatapicalmargin. Legslongandslender,withhindfemurdistinctlyexceedingelytra1apices,1sttarsal segment elongate. Malegenital organ relativelysmall and broad. Median lobebroad, with dorsal platebroadlysubtruncateatapex,hardlyexposingventralplateindorsalview;median struts sinuate; endopha11us without anysclerotized structure except for a pair of crescent-likescleritesnear base. Tegmenwithbroadparamereswhichareshallowly dehiscent,providedwithlongsetaeatapexofeachlobe. Eighthabdominalsegment transversesemicircular. NewAnaglyptineGenusfromTaiwan 579 Range. Taiwan. Notes. Yoshiakioclytusnov establishedhereinisproposed forEpiclytustaiwanus CHANGoriginallydescribed fromcentral Taiwan. Thetypespecieswasregardedas belongingtoaclytinegenusbymisidentificationoftheoriginalauthorforthereasonof itsexternalsimilaritytoEpiclytusspecies. ItnodoubtbelongstothetribeAnaglyptini mainlybythebasaltuberclesonelytraandtheshortmetepimeronwhichbarelyreaches theanteriorpart of hindcoxae. Ontheotherhand,thetrueaffinityofthenewgenusisalmostuncertain. Ofallthe sevenknowngeneraofthetribeAnaglyptini,thisnewgenusmayhavesomerelationship withHirttclytusfromSouthwestJapan. Yoshiakioclytustaiwanusappears inearlyspring, and itspeakperiod is several weeksbetweenmid Februaryandearly March on themountainsnear Taipei Hsien. I examined one femalespecimen collected from Jiuyuetan of the central mountains of Taiwan in mid December. Thisspeciesmaysometimesappear insuch winterseason. TheadultbeetlesusuallycomebyflyingtotheblossomsofLitseacubeba (LOUR) PERSor Castanopstscarlesii (THUNBex MURRAY) SCHOTTKYvar.carlesii (HEMsL) onclearday (CHOU,2004, CHOU,pers.comm). ThelarvalstageofY taiwanusisalmostunknown. AccordingtoCHANG(1960b), theuniqueholotypemalewasdugout fromthelivingtrunkofDiospyrosoldhami var. chartacea. It is a very interesting fact for feeding habit. Hirtyclytus comosus (MATSUSHITA) isknownas theborerof livingPodocarpusnagi ZOLL et MoRITzI., thoughitshostplant isaconifer. Thesimilarhabit isknowninthecasesof01igoenoprus CHEvRoLAT from East Asiaand Micro lytus LECoNTE fromNorth America. The larvaeof the two generamine in the barksof livingdecayedbroadleaved treesand NewAnaglyptineGenusfromTaiwan 583 pupatein thesameplaces.
