It is located on and fed by Yellowater Creek and Snoose Creek. See Figures 1 and 2. Figure 3 provides a general layout of the dam, spillway and outlet works. The dam owned by the Montana Department of Natural Resources and is Conservation PNRC) and managed by the State Water Projects Bureau (SWPB) of the DNRC, The dam is operated by the Yellowater Water Users Association (YWUA). The earthfill dam and dike were completed in 1938. The dam is 37 feet high and 1,695 feet long, while the dike is 1 1 feet high and 545 feet long. The dam's outlet works were replaced in 1985. The outlet works consist of a concrete intake structure, a 42-inch diameter reinforced concrete conduit, a wet well chamber with a control gate, an outlet structure, and an irrigation water delivery canal. The control tower (wet well chamber) contains a 42-inch diameter A slidegate, flashboard guides and a ladder. metal cover protects the opening to the chamber. The gate operator is located on top of the tower. The spillway is located on the right side of the dam between the main dam and the dike section. The spillway is an earthen, broad-crested, uncontrolled outflow system. The channel is trapezoidal in shape with a 3/1998 1 1 minimum base width of 95 feet and has approximate side slopes of 4: (horizontal to vertical). The spillway channel is contained by natural ground and an old dike section on the right (west) side, and the new dike section on the left (east) side. The channel was excavated a short distance into sandy shale material, which should reduce the erosion potential along the flowline. The channel extends approximately 500 feet on nearly a horizontal slope from the inlet to a point where the channel transitions to natural terrain. From there, the spillway discharge travels primarily as overland flow until returning to the Yellowater Creek channel and floodplain. Water from the reservoir primarily is used for irrigation water supply. The reservoir also is used for water-based recreation. 2 3/1998 1 a 03 c eud c — J \\ u S £ 1 S- 3 ©X 3/1998 3 t a <v « CS1 CUD 4 3/1998
