It is a friendly and popular turtle breed, has a sweet personality, well-behaved and easy to handle. These turtles are known for its active and alert personality. They are also branded as the most responsive type of turtles known to man, even comparing it to dogs. These medium sized turtles are known for well-defined pattern found on top of their carapace, which looks like a set of pyramids. Found on northern Costa Rica up to southern Nicaragua, these turtles made home on terrestrial or aquatic habitat, but when the temperature drops, they go back to large streams and rivers to hibernate and because the water will not freeze here. In summer, these turtles like to walk along the shore to find food and hydrate itself. Wood Turtles are daytime animals and would like roam around and suck up all the sunlight it can get. They can set up home for around 2.5 to fifteen acres and well within short distance of water throughout the year. They were first hunted as human food but were later on collected for pet trade due to its big decrease in population. These turtles as easy to feed as they are omnivorous and would easily eat slugs, tadpoles, insects, algae, wild fruit, grass, leaves, carrion, moss, and even worms. You might think turtles are easy to take care and breed, but they are not! They still need special attention to satisfy its need. You still need to know how to raise it properly, give proper care and health protection, so it can have a happy and healthy lifestyle.
