I started practising yoga without any inhibitions following footsteps of my father. My mother actually got me to all the rehearsals and yoga practices for annual days. I was never great at academics but “Yoga” did a number on me. The first thing I thought of post graduating was to be a therapist, a yoga therapist! I loved what I studied and I loved even more what I experienced through the practice. It was both on and off the mat. From a little girl to a woman it’s been a journey of self awareness. Very motivating. It’s taught me to love myself and my life. I’ve inculcated two attitudes through yoga and what my parents taught me: 1. Never let situations disturb you. I’m a learner and I should only learn from them and move ahead. Change is the only constant. 2. Never let a person disturb you too. Everyone comes from a situation, it may sometimes be favourable to you and sometimes not. You can only control your reaction and your Karma. This study of life changed my life around and I’m still following it as much as I can. Whilst enjoying everything I do, think and eat. 06 | WF INDIA - www.womenfitness.org You are always searched on social media as the celebrity yogini and fitness influencer but how Photo Credit: Photographer: Joshua Enochs would you like to describe your work? And the Hair stylist: Julia Fernandes part of your job that you enjoy the most Makeup: Bandana Gujral I would like to be described as a YOGA THERAPIST FIRST. Then a Yoga teacher, then a yoga instructor and then a fitness trainer. Being on Social media, being a Celebrity trainer or fitness influencer are things that came in much later. I am glad I became a part of the industry way before any of this was important. Earlier on, the focus was only on getting into result oriented Yoga classes. It doesn’t shift focus now, but everything you do is always analysed and followed. One has greater responsibility of what you put out there even in terms of how you conduct yourself as a yoga teacher or a celebrity. I want to be approachable and available to all in need and looking for answers. I love training the people I do. Anurag , Zoya, Saif, Bebo, or Reema!!!! They’re all such fun people and very dedicated. I love the fun we have on and off the mat. It’s a mediation in itself when you get people to focus and enjoy what you make them do. My work is result oriented always. Keeping in mind what the clients goal is. I put my whole and soul in every class. That’s how I prefer it. A client and a student are two very different entities. A student learns as we teach them. What we teach and how we teach is always a learning. Whereas a client tell us what their end goal is so as to teach them what they The Best Part Of My require to learn. The best part of my job is to Job Is To Witness witness this journey of a client turn to a student. Perks! The best part of my job are the experiences that i get, i travel a lot and be part of a lot of yoga retreats in the country and international as well. We meet alot of fellow yoga enthusiasts and exchange information which also helps in widening our knowledge as well. Besides that I also enjoy the experience of practicing pre natal yoga with my clients helping them conceive and sheer joy that I see on the face of new mums is undoubtedly the best thing! 08 | WF INDIA - www.womenfitness.org
