Outdoor and indoor wireless communication networks are so successful that they lead to numerous applications in sectors ranging from industries and enterprises to homes and universities. No longer bound by the harnesses of wired networks, people are able to communicate witheachother,interactwithinformation-processingdevices,andreceiveawide rangeof mobile wireless services throughvarious types of networks andsystems everywhere, anytime. The annual International Conference on Wireless Communications and Ap- plications (ICWCA) aims to provide a forum that brings together researchers fromacademiaaswellaspractitionersfromindustrytomeetandexchangeideas and recent research work on all aspects of wireless communication networks. For ICWCA 2011, we received around 90 papers from different countries including South Korea, UK, Iran, and Japan, but only 41 were accepted and presented. Speakersprimarilyfocusedonmobile adhoc networks,sensornetworks,net- work architectural design, network protocol design, local area networks, MAC, routing, and transport protocols, quality of service provisioning, reliability and fault-tolerance issues, resource allocation and management, signal processing, medicalimaging, data aggregationtechniques,securityandprivacyissues,wire- lesscomputingandapplicationsforwirelessnetwork,i.e.,smartgrid,agriculture, health care, smart home, conditional monitoring, etc. We enjoyed working with our friends in the ICWCA 2011 Program Com- mittee, with the authors of the papers themselves, and with the referees who reviewed papers. These researchers, who represent different countries and come from a variety of academic backgrounds and interests, have worked together because of a shared interest in wireless communications and applications. We hope that the papers contained in these proceedings will prove helpful toward improving the development of wireless communication and expanding the scientific thinking of researchers.
