ISSN 2399-195X © Guild of Certified Sommeliers 2015-2022 Quinta Murta 2020, Bucelas, Portugal Bucelas, called the prince of Portuguese wine, is the most famous dry white wine of Portugal, where Arinto variety of grapes has been cultivated and developed by the Romans for more than 2 000 years. It was in fact the only white wine in Portugal during many centuries. During Shakespeare time, Bucelas wine became very popular with the British royal court as well throughout England. The wine called ”charneco”, named after a small village in Bucelas, is mentioned in Sharkespeare’s Henry the VI play, part 2, writen in 1594. The characteristics of the taste of Arinto are intense yet discreet, aromatic, citrus, apple and tropical with stylish texture and firmness. It finishes long with rewarding flavors. Characterized by its lively high acidity and freshness, even in hot climate, giving a great vibrant white and sparkling wine full of character, capable for long guard, but also delicious young. Arinto develops with age a bouquet of lemon and vanilla softwood. It is ideal with oysters and seafood, as well as white fish and chicken dishes. 90 Cune Verdejo 2021, Rueda, Sapain In 1879, the Real de Asúa brothers arrived in Haro to embark on what would become one of the longest-standing histories in the wine world. A trip initially taken for health reasons led to the creation of Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (C.V.N.E.) in the iconic Barrio de la Estación railway station. This marked the birth of a family winery that has grown over five generations. Today, the winery is still run by the same family, producing quality, artisanal and traditional wines that grace tables in more than 90 countries. Cune Rueda is a young white wine made from Verdejo grapes. Fresh with citrus scents that get replicated in the palate. This wine is very easy to drink, while having good complexity Ideal to start a meal, as an aperitif, and a great pair with white fish, seafood, chicken and pasta dishes. We just tried it with smoked cobia, and it was amazing. 90 Cline Family Cellars, Nancy's Vines Viognier 2020, California, USA Fred started Cline Family Cellars in 1982 in Oakley, California, making his first vintages from original plantings of Mourvèdre, Zinfandel, and Carignane, some of which dated back to the 1880s. In 1989, he purchased a 350-acre horse farm in Sonoma-Carneros and moved the winery here. Since those first plantings, the family has continued to plant vineyards throughout Sonoma County, expanding to include more classic varieties like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Cline Family Cellars is one of California's original Rhône style producers. There's 14% Pinot Gris added to the Viognier, and no oak influence – just lees ageing in stainless steel. It carries the punchy alcohol well considering is 14.5%, round and fleshy with ripe peach and apricot and some tropical nuances. Rich and golden, and almost tropical in character, with good acidity to keep it fresh. 90 Gonzalo de Berceo, White Tempranillo, 2019, Rioja, Spain Bodegas Berceo was founded in 1801. It is the oldest winery of the city of Haro, located in the heart of appellation Rioja. It is the only winery of that time with a vertical design that continues working. The underground tunnels of the winery are located in the old galleries of Haro´s old castle, which have been preserved since the Middle Ages. In this place we can find constant humidity and temperature throughout the year, which is perfect for the development of the wine. Bright and clear, pale lemon yellow wine. An unusual nose, there are aromas of peach, pear, tropical fruit and nuances of fresh grass adorned with cream and white pepper. On the palate, fresh, balances and round with reminiscence of ripe and tropical fruit. I had this with seafood and green salad, and both were good pairs, but tempura, calamari and lightly fried food will too. 93
