¡  In 1904 moved to Massachusetts and started
his career
¡  Has strong passion on making books.
¡  Disliked European typefaces such as Futura
and Kabel.
¡  Designed various kinds of types that were
widely used
¡  In the year 1922 he came up wit the term of
“graphic design” because of his process of
book-making. (Combining design,
illustrations and typesetting together)
¡  1905~1916: being a commercial artist.
¡  1917~1918: being the director of Harvard University Press
¡  1922: the first person who used the term “graphic design”
¡  1928: produces his first linotype
¡  1929: He was awarded a gold metal by AIGA ( American
Institute of Graphic Design).
