Many believe that Wicca is a custom that has survived in cultures through many years, as it was kept concealed during the time that was considered the shady years in the Christian Church’s oppression of the Pagans until it was once again able to rise into the everyday life of light during the modern times. The idea that Wicca has an ancient tradition is what initially attracts a lot of people to the practice. In a day and age that is noisy, dedicated to materialism, and industrialized a lot of people can feel a deeper connection and desire for the elder wise and more spiritual life to live. Most of what people hear about Wicca is hearsay, but what can we say we really know as fact about Wicca? Wicca is known to be an ancient practice of our ancestors and a very old religion, but this simply is not true. The earliest known date of Wicca is back in the mid-20th century, though it has been said that its influences can be drawn from dates that are much older than that. Usually, the history of Wicca is known through two different stories. The first is that, of the actual story, where it was founded in the years between 1940 and 1950 in the country of England. The second is rather more of a legendary story in that it is an eternal mission to comprehend and join with a foundation of the godly at the core of Nature’s secrecies and ideologies. The first version of the story can be backed by the facts that have been written down in history; both are equally important in truly understanding how the Wiccan religion came about. The birth of Wicca is attributed to an English town’s worker, who was also known to be an author and an occultist. His make was Gerald Gardner. Gardner was born in 1884 and traveled all over during his young years, and became absorbed with the subjects of folklore, anthropology, and archaeology, and eventually a level of spiritualism and different topics that are enthusiastically accredited to the occult. He spent a lot of time during his life in Asia, which is the place in which he came to know of occult principles and enchanted practices. Gerald was known to be a member of a lot of different groups and civilizations that were known to like these interests, which included the Order of the Rosicrucian that he became a member of in 1939. It was in this group that he met some of his friends that were members in an even more private deep-rooted circle who were told to have exposed to Gerald that they were actually a small witch coven. He began his initiation in September of that year into that same coven. Early in the 1920s, which was several years later, a popular theory came about and was traveling in the anthropology circles. It was about an ancient religion of the pagans that had been nearly wiped out due to the increasing popularity of Christianity, but it was still known to be in practice in clandestine among small groups of people throughout the western part of Europe. An anthropologist at the time pushed the theory forward, called this religious a “witch-cult” and continued to assert that the persisting people who practiced were organized into covens that likely had 13-members. When Gerald met the group known as New Forest, he was certain that this group was one of the outstanding covens of this early faith that predated Christianity, and he wanted to do whatever he could make sure that the cult of witches could survive into and through the coming century. Covens, which ideally have anywhere from 10-15 members are entered through a ritual of initiation and typically bring into line with one of numerous group relations. As the members of a coven get good at the rehearsal of magic and are becoming more conversant with the rituals, they graduate up to two different levels of a required initiation. There is also a level three of initiation, and this is reserved for those who are interested in entering priesthood. In the system known by Gardner. Importance is assumed to the priestess, and the privileged in this community trace their own level of expertise through a linage of priestesses back to the group in which Gardner was a member. Although there is a level of difference within the community of Wiccans, many supporters of the religion share a universal list of practices as well as
