)"1\.Jf\10? Nnwu:11 Facets Multi-media is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the media arts. We show great movies year-round in our two small cinemas, and we're home to The Chicago International Children's Film Festival, the largest competitive kids fest in the U.S. We also maintain a large video retail store, a live performance space, and of course, our worldwide mail-order video catalog. Along with all of you who have enjoyed and used The Whole Toon Catalog for many years, we were fascinated with this unique resource for animation. Since acquiring the catalog in 1996, along with the services of Whole Toon's founder, Doug Ranney, we have been working hard to maintain the spirit of Whole Toon. We continue seeking out and providing you with the widest assortment of animated films from across the globe. In the near future, we plan to expand your access to these films even further, through a database on our World Wide Web site. It's a tradition that fits perfectly with our long-standing commitment to classic, foreign, independent and fine arts cinema. The Whole Toon Catalog was started in 1988 by animation lovers for animation lovers. We strive to provide the finest selection of animated films from the world over. We buy from hundreds of sources and we're constantly on the lookout for new films on video, whether they come from Disney or the smallest independent producer. After years of serving animation fans, scholars and professionals, we've accumulated an unmatched knowledge of cartoons released on home video. Whether you seek that certain East European stop-motion rarity or desire the complete canon of Tex Avery, we are here to provide it if it's been released on tape. We aim to satisfy animation fans like ourselves, so you won't find much Saturday-morning fare, or really anything in the way of "kidvid." You won't see live-action fare such as muppets or The Thunderbirds, or even live-action films that incorporate animated effects (such as King Kong or Jason & The Argonauts). What you will find in these pages is the best selection of quality animated films assembled anywhere. C<>LLECTl<>N To order the Flintstones Collection laserdisc boxed set, see Page 36. This is one cool home video product. This four-disc set was produced by Spumco (the creators of Ren and Stimpy) and John Kricfalusi drew the cover and wrote most of the accompanying booklet tracing the first half-year of The Flintstones. You will learn more about your favorite "modern Stone-Age family" than you ever thought possible. The laserdiscs contain the first fourteen episodes in production order, thus you get to see how the Flintstones developed as the show progressed. Fred is more pissed-off, Barney has that cool "retarded" voice, and Dino is barely seen in these earliest episodes. All feature the original "Rain or Shine" first season opening titles as opposed to the "Meet The Flintstones" theme opening we've all come to know. - There is also a selection of original broadcast Flintstone commercials for adult products like Alka-Seltzer and Winston cigarettes; the original "Flagstones" pilot film; pencil test animation; a section on how to identify Flintstones animators (you'll be able to tell a Preston Blair "Flintstone" from a Dan Gordon "Rubble"); and a gallery of l 960's vintage Flintstone toys and merchandise. The booklet contains an interview with designer Ed Benedict and complete show credits (long since missing from the syndicated TV prints), along with John K.'s personal comments on each show. If you are looking for Pebbles and Bamm Bamm or The Great Gazoo, look elsewhere. This is for true 'Stone-heads only, and it's fantastic. Buy this! He makes some interesting comments about "The Golden Age of Looney Tunes Vol. 5", as well as some other animation collections. The Whole Toon Catalog is published by Facets Multi-media 1517 W.
