Various successes on the academic front and athletic field characterized a year of unbeatable excellence. From the Phi Theta Kappa chapter representing academic excellence near and far to the athletic teams representing the tenacity oft he student athletes, the Bears proved themselves to be insuppressible. BestColleges.com selected Southwest as the number one community college in the state. Criteria such as academic outcome and affordability influenced the ranking; the data represented the most current data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) and College Navigator, both of which were hosted by the National Center for Education Statistics. Whenever an obstacle presented itself, someone stepped up to the plate and overcame the challenge. Nursing students studied tirelessly to achieve a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX exam, an examination with a reputation for incomparable rigor. As evidenced in every achievement, the Bears stopped at nothing to achieve their goals. by Cody Pol opening 3 Student Life was filled with exciting campus events. Students were ecstatic to participate in all the fun activities such as blood drives, intramurals, and field days. Annual blood drives were a major draw for the students; they loved donating because of the intrinsic reward. Each knew that his or her blood would save lives and wanted to make a difference. During Valentine's Day, students came together to decorate cupcakes and donate much-needed supplies to those affected by the Hattiesburg tornado. Their hearts were touched by the thought of providing for those in need. 44, Crowds were in awe of the unbeatable talent on campus. Students' skills were showcased during the annual Christmas and spring stage band shows. The choir, stage band, and dancers put on a phenomenal show and stunned audiences from all across the state. Bears fans gathered around the perimeter of John I. Hurst football stadium every Thursday night to support their team. Fans were adamant about supporting the football team. Determined to have a great time, attendees of the event brought chairs and tents to make themselves feel as at home as possible. With each touchdown scored, fans were determined to keep morale as high as possible. Southwest's Student Government Association worked diligently to ensure that all football events were as enjoyable as possible. Mingling with the crowd and helping where needed, the SGA was an integral part of the Thursday night events.
