ii outside view of Southwest draws attention to a picitn•esque setting. With its peaceful lake, lush foliage, blooming
wzaleas, winding trails, and towering pines, Southwest offers an aesthetic-AY pleasing and soothing cn' ii onment. Its campus
consists of 28 buildings, a stadium, tennis courts, and baseball, softball, and soccer fields located on a sixty acre plot. From a
distance Southwest truly is a beautiful community college, and by taking a closer look at the college its true inner beauh, its
people, is revealed as well.
Inside Southwest's classrooms teachers work closely with students helping them to reach academic success. Small student to
teacher ratios allow students the opportunity to gain die knowledge needed to continue their education or to competiti entei
the job market. Whether seeking an AA degree for acadeinic graduates or an AS for technical graduates. all students gain a
quality education in a personable environment at Southwest.
Through organizations offered at Southwest, students work closely with one another developing friendships while
exhibiting their talents as leaders, volunteers, supporters, and encouragers. A closer look at organizational meetings shrms
students learning to listen, to respect others, and to give freely of their time and talents.
From a distance Southwest's athletics appear to focus on physic-al strength and hard work. However, by taking a closer look
one may also see teamwork, sacrifice, training, dedication, and cooperation, skills necessary for success on and off the field.
A (loser look at Southwest's classrooms, organizations, and athletics hardly breaks the surface to what lies beneath. Its
through the daily routines of students sham ing space and respecting differencus ‘hile living together in dorms, forming stmh
groups to support and encom age one another in preparation for an upcoming test, gathering for a good laugh while hanging
out in the GI ill or Student I ,nion, or simply sharing a smile while walking across campus that brings one (loser to
understanding Southwest's inner beauty.
