This book is no exception to that rule. This tribute must start with a simple note by my fi rst (and only) literary agent, John Harney of Boston, who, a number of years ago, helped with the fi rst edit for the fi rst edition of Abused Men: The Hidden Side of Domestic Violence. He said, “Cut these paragraphs—it is a different subject that belongs in another book.” My editor for that volume, Nancy Wolf, also encouraged a book on this subject, and I am also very grateful that she gave me some essential keys to better writing. Malcolm George, MD, of London, in interviews conducted for that book, was very enthusiastic that another book was needed, and as referenced in this volume, es- sential to this work. Dr. George passed away in 2013 and this book is dedicated to his memory. Martin Fiebert, PhD, of Long Beach, Califor- nia is also acknowledged in the text, and his work is especially critical. There are many other researchers, therapists, sociologists, and journal- ists whose work we have drawn from, and we strived very hard to ac- knowledge all in the notes or in the text and quote or paraphrased them accurately. As noted, a special thank you again to those who gave us permission to quote extensively from their work. Thank you for decid- ing to tackle diffi cult issues in your research and reporting. Warren Far- rell, PhD, of California, author of many volumes, including the essential Myth of Male Power has been supportive of my work and it should be known that he was the fi rst to publish a book regarding many of the is- sues and subjects raised in this volume. I wish I had his gift for the pithy and appropriate ‘ah-hah’ phrase. The organization Stop Abusive and Violent Environments is recognized for helpfully agreeing to provide correspondence, reports, and analysis.
