What young India wants is a non-fiction book written by the popular Indian writer Chetan Bhagat. The author has been a popular fiction novelist, this is his first non -fiction. The chapters of the book portray the same passion the author had while creating his fictional work. From the very first page of the book we will be able to sense the various states of mind such as frustration, anguish, and hope the writer had during the conception of this book. The author begins the book with quite a long letter that gives us a quick tour of his life so far. The letter briefly describes the authors childhood, college, how the college life changed him, how landing in Hong Kong changed his perspective about economy, his guilt about why he is not able to convince the people and policy makers of the country, how he emerged from a banker to Author, how he turned into a motivational speaker and the impact he was able to make by writing newspaper columns. The letter also expresses how people can make a change and the extent to which he has made a difference as an individual. The book is an assortment of articles published in newspapers on issues like education, poverty, corruption, politics, student suicides etc. The book not only provides insight into all these problems but also awakens the reader about the egocentric nature we manifest within our self when it comes to education and career. The book is categorized into three sections OUR SOCIETY, OUR YOUTH AND POLITICS. The first section in the book is "OUR SOCIETY". This section consists of thirteen articles. The section focuses on making the readers realize that for any lasting change to happen in the country, the society(we citizens) have to change in terms of behavior, attitudes and values. We easily inculpate the law-makers of the country, we need to realize that we need to take responsibility for some problems.
