Ican’t believe how quickly this year has gone.It seems
like barely a month ago when I uprooted from
Gloucestershire to London to edit WestSide – but that
was back in May when we remembered what the sun looked
like and I could step out of my house in ballet pumps rather
than Ugg boots.
Still,Christmas is certainly is a fun time of year and
West London is a particularly attractive part of the city
to live in.With an abundance of Christmas farmers’
markets,open-air ice rinks and cosy pubs to retreat to,the
prospect of wintry nights doesn’t seem quite so gloomy.
In this current climate it’s essential we continue
to support local businesses.Chiswick’s Oxfam is one such
place; now selling vintage designer clothing and beautiful
party accessories,it’sthe best place to go and shop – all the
while knowing that you’redoing your bit to help charity.
Recently,there’sbeen a big resurgence of people deciding
to improvetheir house,rather than spending the money
on moving.We’vemerited this bydoing an interiors profile
on a property in West Kensington that has had a makeover
bythe present owners.If you’redeciding to renovate your
own home in West London which you feel is particularly
photogenic,do get in contact with me,I’d love to see the
pictures! My favourites will go on the website.

Come glide with me
Skating at the Royal Botanic Gardens,Kew has become a huge West London
Christmas institution and this year,the huge 1000m sq ice rink returns to its
majestic setting in front of the Temperate House.The six-week season lasts until
4 January from 10am-10pm daily and the nearby café is supplying warm drinks
and festive snacks to help skaters thaw out.For a special festive treat,visitors
can purchase a joint ticket for the Gardens and skating at £16 for adults
and £14.50 for concessions.

Gardens in the sky
Work has begun on a new community roof garden at the Lyric
Theatre,Hammersmith.It will be on the first floor overlooking
Lyric Square and will feature a stunning array of plants as well
as seating,lighting,an iconic artistic canopy and a performance
space.The Lyric’s executive director,Jessica Hepburn,says,
‘The terrace garden will provide a green space for everyone
in Hammersmith to enjoy during the days and in the evening.’
The work will be completed by the end of February next year.
St Vincent’s Care Home commemorated
A plaque commemorating the history of St Vincent’s Care Home in Queen Latymer School
Caroline Street,Hammersmith has been unveiled by the Historic Buildings ‘an architectural gem’
