ThisSpringerimprintispublishedbytheregisteredcompanySpringerNatureSwitzerlandAG Theregisteredcompanyaddressis:Gewerbestrasse11,6330Cham,Switzerland Foreword Today we are experiencing the Fourth Industrial Revolution, i.e., the fourth major industrialperiodsincetheinitialIndustrialRevolutionfromthe18thcentury.TheWeb is an important player in this revolution as it contributes to the blurring of the frontier between the physical and digital world, providing connectivity not only to computers but also to physical devices and everyday objects. Web applications make increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms to improve their efficiency and effec- tiveness, as well as to provide new functionality that was previously unimaginable, in an increasingly complex world. AI is successfully used for the design, development, and maintenanceof Webapplications, decreasing the reliance on thehuman factorfor these processes. Web Engineering (WE) aims to address these new challenges by providing the next generation of Web methodologies, techniques, and tools. This volume contains the full research papers, short research papers, posters, demonstrations, PhD symposium papers, tutorials, and extended abstracts for the keynotesofthe19thInternationalConferenceonWebEngineering(ICWE2019),held during June 11–14, 2019 in Daejeon, South Korea. ICWEistheflagshipconferencefortheWEcommunity.PreviouseditionsofICWE took place at Cáceres, Spain(2018), Rome, Italy (2017), Lugano, Switzerland (2016), Rotterdam,TheNetherlands(2015),Toulouse,France(2014),Aalborg,Denmark(2013), Berlin,Germany(2012),Paphos,Cyprus(2011),Vienna,Austria(2010),SanSebastian, Spain(2009),YorktownHeights,NY,USA(2008),Como,Italy(2007),PaloAlto,CA, USA(2006),Sydney,Australia(2005),Munich,Germany(2004),Oviedo,Spain(2003), SantaFe,Argentina(2002),andCáceres,Spain(2001).The2019editionofICWEwas centeredonthethemeof“AIandtheWeb,”herebyhighlightingtheimpactthatAIhason WEresearchtoday. ICWE 2019 had nine research themes, namely, Web Mining and Knowledge Extraction, Web Big Data and Web Data Analytics, Social Web Applications and Crowdsourcing, Web User Interfaces, Web Security and Privacy, Web Programming, WebServicesandComputing,SemanticWebandLinkedOpenDataApplications, and Web Application Modeling and Engineering. The ICWE 2019 edition received 106 submissions, out of which the Program Committee selected 26 full research papers (24% acceptance rate) and nine short researchpapers(33%acceptancerate).Additionally,theProgramCommitteeaccepted two demonstrations, four posters, and four contributions to the PhD symposium. Also accepted were five tutorials lecturing on the advanced topics of (1) Exploiting Side InformationforRecommendation,(2)DeepLearning-BasedSequentialRecommender Systems: Concepts, Algorithms, and Evaluations, (3) Architectural Styles for the DevelopmentofWoTApplications,(4)PowerfulDataAnalysisandCompositionwith the UNIX Shell, and (5) Non-monotonic Reasoning on the Web, as well as the fol- lowing four workshops: (1) Second International Workshop on Maturity of Web Engineering Practices (MATWEP 2019), (2) Third International Joint Workshop on vi Foreword Engineering the Web of Things (EnWoT 2019) and Liquid Multi-Device Software (LMDS 2019), (3) 5th International Workshop on Knowledge Discovery on the Web (KDWEB 2019), and (4) International Workshop on Data Science and Knowledge Graph (DSKG 2019). The excellent program would not have been possible without the support of the manypeoplewhohelpedwiththesuccessfulorganizationofthisevent.Wewouldlike to thank all the chairs of the tutorials, demonstrations and posters, workshops, PhD symposium, publicity, as well as the local chairs for their dedication and hard work. Our thanks also goes to Bing Liu (University of Illinois at Chicago), Sunghun Kim (NAVER Corp./Hong Kong University of Science and Technology), and Antti Oulasvirta(AaltoUniversity),whoacceptedtobeourkeynotespeakers.FlorianDaniel and Martin Gaedke deserve special thanks for their continuous advice and encour- agement in setting up ICWE 2019 in Daejeon. We would like to also thank Michael Krug and Martin Gaedke for hosting the conference website. We are grateful to Springer for publishing this volume. In addition, we thank the reviewers for their thorough work, which allowed us to select the best papers to be presented at ICWE 2019.Last,butnotleast,wewouldliketothanktheauthorswhosubmittedtheirwork to ICWE 2019 and all the participants who contributed to the success of this event.
