In fuly 1995 it became a Division (July 1995 - June 30, 1996) within the Office of Scientific 1, Research and Analysis in the Department of Natural Re- WMRC sources (DNR). was charged with a mission to com- bine researchandeducation; in- formation collection, analysis and dissemination; and direct technical assistance to industry, agriculture,*and communities. Our name was changed in Sep- tember 1996 to reflect our ex- panding role in helping compa- nieswherevertheyareinthewaste management hierarchy—from pollution prevention, to recy- cling, to treatment, remediation and disposal. Our emphasis re- mains on reducing waste at the sourcethroughpollutionpreven- tion,responsiblymanagingthose wastesthatcannotbeeliminated, andincreasingtheefficiencyand competitiveness ofIllinois busi- ness.
