I would also like to applaud the efforts of the students, their parents and their trainers and supporting staff for all their hard work, sincere and dedicated efforts in keeping the UPES flag flying high in the aca- demic as well as in co-curricular activities. I am sure that many students are unaware that UPES has become the first academic partner of NITI Aayog for next five years. The faculty at UPES has always been a trend setter but what has also been noteworthy is the excellent support and commitment of the non-teaching staff. I wish to congratulate the entire faculty and staff for encouraging and guiding the students in all facets, for their well-rounded development. Today the corporate world seeks a generation of young people who are not only enlightened Dr. Shrihari Honwad with knowledge, but also have critical thinking ability. The winds of change are sweeping across the world. The world of education is evolving rapidly. The digital world is becoming more fascinating each passing day and online learning is the in-thing. Apps boost our productivity and elevate our personal lives. E-books make reading more accessible and elegant. If you are a teacher by choice or accident, you’re shouldering a great national respon- sibility. No, it’s a great global responsibility. It is especially so in the 21st centu- ry. I feel, technology has thrown the biggest challenge to the teachers across the world. Knowledge is no longer the monopoly of anybody. It’s free, and it is for all. Now it is readily available just at the click of a mouse. Thanks to Google and internet. Technology has democratized knowledge. Keeping this change, we are on our way to lecture the millennial and make our pedagogy more enriching and engaging by interlacing it with quality digital content. My experience at University of Alberta was a lot different when compared with our country. The college professors and students are friendly as they help each other. In my semester program, we went for the Industrial Visit that has been one of my best experience from the College. Canada is famous for Oil Sands and we visited SYNCRUDE and SUNCOR industries which are into oil production from Oil Sands. We got to know about mining system, large motor vehicles which are used for mining and con- trol system of technology at the different processes of exploration. I lived in campus hostel in Edmonton (Alberta). Transportation system in the city was well connected with 24 hour services. Also, night life in the city was awesome. Food carnivals, Halloween festival and many other festivities have given me different expe- rience about western culture which was new to me altogether. Group Photo of Manideep with his classmates - Manideep Kallepalli and Professor. MBA– Energy Trading I got an opportunity to do my 3rd semester at the University of Alberta (Edmonton, Canada) under a Stu- dent Exchange Program. I was definitely excited and at the same time anxious with a dilemma of whether I would be able to meet up the expectations. That place brought a different level of passion and zeal that helped me to work and stay alive in -30 degree temperature also. The study pattern at UoA emphasized on self study, analytical understanding and application based ap- proach. The professors for all my subjects were very supportive and gave me ample time from their busy schedules to clear my doubts. The assignments taught me new perspective to apply my knowledge. I was considered as Graduate MBA exchange Student in major NREE (Natural Resources, Energy and Envi- ronment. I registered myself in 4 subjects and also volunteered with the office sustainability at the campus and engaged in a research with them. Along with the mental targets set for my own self to perform I great partied like crazy with my gang there without whom survival there won’t be possible. Attend- ed university’s beautiful parade and celebrated each and every Canadian and Indi- an festivals like thanks giving, Boxing Day, Durga Puja, Navrati, Diwali and Christ- mas there. It was a far away home and eventually became my second home. 5 months juggling between the activities of University of Alberta and thinking about my friends at UPES getting placed in all good companies made me think what will happen if I don’t perform here? How things will go? Am I doing this cor- rect or not? But all because of my parents trust in me and Dr. Guven’s motivating words brought in all good to me and for the University. This university and place Group Photo with Prof. Richard Dixon and brought out real me out, saying that I meant I was very serious about my work and Ishita’s classmates at Fort Mc Murray submissions and of course I also partied and travelled across Alberta like crazy and made some lifetime friends, a bond which is hard to find in this short period of 5 months. I would like to pay my utmost gratitude to all my professors of University of Alberta and UPES for guiding me through this journey of everyday learning , new experiences, new challenges, understand the new culture and the new education system and promptly helping me where ever or whenever I lost track. Lastly, I would like to acknowledge my parents for their sup- port and enabling me to keep up my positive side for each and every day . - Ishita Ranjan MBA– Energy Trading Demonetization Affecting India’s Export Import The demonetization effort being led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in India is the idea of Rs.500 and Rs.1,000 notes should be declared no longer legal tender. It is to be replaced by other notes of different designs and in one case, denominations. The aim is to wash the stock of "black money" out of the economy and get it into the licit, banked and taxable, part of the econ- omy. Growth of any Country depends up on its Export Import Trade. Indeed it is very crucial for India too especially after demonetization the Exports have slowed down due to currency crunch. True to its core that instability in the Exports leads to inflation and that in turn leads to an un- certainty of internal purchasing power and unstable economy. 8th November 2016 marked in history when India announced demonetization of its large currencies. India’s import and export business is hugely affected by the recent and shocking announcement of demonetization. The Foreign Trade industry is suffering in the aftershocks and shall continue to suffer for a further period, though for limited time. The Indian Government has always paid incentives and promoted export with easy policies. Nonetheless the Exports market is taking a toll at the moment. Make in India projects need easy flow of currency for manufacturing, hence the import and export trade have both got their bottlenecks. For a few months India’s Exports may be slow but consider that for any acceleration, the vehicle must be slow to begin with. India shall come out with higher GDP and influx of foreign exchange with prosperous Exports, in sooner times than thought of. -Nishu Gupta MBA Logistics and Supply Chain Management UPESite Inspiring the Young Minds The widest smile spreads across my face as I recount my classes at MAD, for the fondest of memories flood my mind. I have been associated with Make A Difference, Dehradun for almost half a year now, and it still feels like yesterday. Every class that I have taken so far, has taught me something new, broadened my horizons and changed my per- spective a little more. It'd be only fair to say that we can only, impart academ- ic knowledge to these young ones because what they give us in return is far more greater, they teach us valuable life lessons, make us appreciate life a lot more, inspire us to be satiated with whatever that we have been blessed with and most importantly to keep smiling even in the face of adversity. Within a very short span of six months that I've spent with these children, 'my children' as I like to call them, I've seen the growth in me and a motivation stronger than ever to remain connected to the cause and my children for as long as I can. My Mad journey so far has really truly been MADly magical. - Anushree Varma BBA– Digital Marketing CoMES Student turns Entrepreneur Journey from UPES to The Dim Sum House was quite interesting and challenging too, completed my MBA in the year 2012 from UPES and got campus placement, the urge to create my own venture was always alive during the college days but it was challenging for me as the responsibility of paying the education loan was right over my head. Took the first job in Motul Lubricants from campus and then served ISPe, during all these years several business ideas kept popping up in the mind, after almost 3 years of job I took my decision to come up with a venture, with the support of my family and my business partner Devanshu Taneja who was from UPES family as well. The dream of being an entrepreneur is now a reality with "The Dim Sum House" and UPES had played a very vital role in carving my personality, to take challenges and boost my confidence to do what I always wanted to do. -Gautam Arora Founder - The Dim Sum House World Business Forum 2016 The World Business Forum 2016 was held at the Lin- coln Center in New York City on the 17th and 18th of November. It is an annual event where business leaders and experts from around the world get to- gether to discuss ideas to accelerate growth , opti- mize business processes to achieve maximum effi- ciency and increase productivity. This year’s theme was Be Beta – which means that businesses are al- ways in a stage of ‘Beta’ that means they are always evolving , changing and we need to not only adapt to that change but embrace it as a means to enhance and reinvent our businesses . There were many emi- nent speakers like Amy Cuddy, Erik Wahl, Daymond John, Vijay Govindarajan, Malala Yousafzai and An- dre Agassi who shared their views and wisdom on the theme ,how they adapted to adversities and A speaker addressing at WOBI evolved ,what strategies they use and guide companies to follow to realize their true potential. They also spoke about the innovations and strategies they use to build brands and products for the future & just how important it is for organizations to truly understand and value their customers. I learned a lot from all the speakers and one of the biggest things that I learned was ‘reducing inefficiencies’ in day to day activities and having a more focused approach and vision towards my goals and future. It’s really important for us to understand that in today’s ever evolving world we need to keep at pace with things around us to move forward with them. We need to focus more on goal – oriented activities and focus less on things that actually don’t even matter and cause no value Participants at WOBI addition to our personal or professional lives. We should also have an entrepreneurial outlook towards our activities our projects and our plans and learn to believe in ourselves. These learning are just the tip of the iceberg of learning that I had from my visit. I would like to thank UPES and Laureate for giving me this wonderful opportunity, I will certainly share these learning with my colleagues and implement them in my actions as well. Aditya Vijay Kumar MBA International Business (2016-2018) CoMES, UPES Aditya Vijay Kumar Participating in an Interview Summer Internship Experiences One of the best things that happened with me during my MBA was summer internship. I was al- ways fond of how airports work and luckily i got a chance to work as an intern at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. This internship not only helped me to know how airports work but also gave me a platform to interact with the market. At RGIA, I learnt about the daily operations done at the airport and how to deal with everyday problems. They taught me how to be calm in difficult situa- tions and still work efficiently. My experience with RGIA was full of knowledge and I'm definitely going to remember it throughout my life because it'll help me to work effectively in life. Aakanksha Sharma MBA Aviation Management(2015-17) UPES made me what I am. I’ve also done market research in Sedan segment of all automotive brands. Shubh Mehta BBA Auto Marketing (2015-2018) My internship has been very interactive and interesting.
