He always greeted everyone with a huge smile, a classic joke, and the occasional lollipop. The students of WHS truly were blessed to have him in our lives and we dedicate this yearbook in his honor. We can only aspire to live life as cheerful and positive as he did. Bruce truly was the spokesperson for our WHS motto: work hard be kind. Bruce passed away on January 31, 2017. Wilmington residents seemed eager for a improvements and the plans Were approved by a 3_1 margin in a town referendum in December 2011. It took a couple of years for all of the pieces to fall into place, but the Groundbreaking for the new high school Was held on Thursday, April 25, 2013. Construction began while students continued to attend the ’’old” school next door. After two years of Watching the slow construction progress, it Was finally time to say goodbye to the ’old” school Students attended classes for the last time on February' 13, 2015. After February' break, teachers and administrators moved into the new building, with students following the next day (February 24th). Demolition of the old school could now begin and the removal began in March 2015. The whole project Was overseen by Dore <fr Whittier Architecture Firm, with a cost of ~$80 million. The ! new school is 193,340 sq. feet. The ’old’ Wilmington High School Was built in the 1950s. At that time, there Were about 70 students in each graduating class. Almost 70 years later, the first graduating class of the new school Was over 250 students! During Spirit Week We collected President: Andrew Dawson money for tke Artkritis Foundation We ran our first fundraiser Vice President: Britney Mallebrancke selling candy canes. Tkey Were called Candy Grams. We also Secretary: Jade Brennan organized tke Talent SkoW and Spring Fling. Treasurer: Jesse Valente Class Representatives: Hannak Walsk, Jessica Moore Tkis year We started planning for Junior and Senior prom. We looked at different Venues and decided wkere to kold tkem. We <o< also keld a few fundraisers to Work on our funding. We keld a Officers Dining for a Cause at tke 99s. We also kelped organize tke President: V ittorio Iocco Talent SkoW and Spring Fling. For February Vacation, We Vice President: Britney Mallebrancke donated an entertainment basket to Eric Steeves and kis family. Secretary: Skaranya Ramartan At tke end of tke year We keld class elections. Our newly elected Treasurer: Jesse Valente officers created a tribute to Mr. Makoney, tke outgoing vice Class Representatives: Hannak Walsk, principal Jessica Moore Getting ready for Junior Prom We formed a Prom Committee. *<2 Tkis committee worked witk tke advisors to make tkis nigkt Officers special Prom Was at Tewksbury Country Club. We also sold Secretary: Farlka Haque carnations for Graduation. As tke year started to wind down, We Treasurer: Sydney Padulsky started preparing for Senior Year. We keld a contest for tke Class Representatives: Hannak Walsk, Senior t'skirt design. Jessica Moore Senior Year was filled witk many firsts as well as many lasts. We were on tke kome stretck We Were applying to college, keeping our grades up, deciding wkere to go all wkile making memories. Officers Once We got back to sckool we started organizing tke sale of President: Vittorio Iocco Senior t'skirts. We also organized Spirit Week and kad a fun Vice President: Mia O’Connell filled pep rally to end it. We keld multiple fundraisers tkis year Secretary: Farlka Haque to kelp witk tke costs of prom and senior Week activities. We kad Treasurer: Skaranya Ramanan Dining for a Cause at tke 99s and Ckipotle. We kelped run our Class Representatives: Hannak Walsk, final Talent SkoW witk some of our class officers even Jessica Moore participating. We kad prom at Castleton Banquet and Conference Center witk a tkeme of Midnigkt in Paris. We were all very excited as tke year Was coming to an end and We would all be going onto anotker adventure. To tke Class of 2018, I am sure tkat four years seemed an eternity as you started your life at WHS as freskmen. I am just as sure tkat you are now wondering wkere tkose four years kaCe gone. I kope tkat it Was a journey of wonderful memories — a journey wkick provided you witk great learning experiences, many positive relationskips, and muck laugkter. Wketker your strengtks are in academics, atkletics, art, music, or drama, wkat nmtters most is tkat you arrived kere every day ready to nrake a difference. Please take tke time to reflect on your four-year journey and focus on tke good times, tke positive experiences, tke fun you kad, and tke differences you kaVe nrade. It is sometimes difficult for me to put into Words my sentiments, tkougkts, and advice wken I am also saying goodbye. You must know by now tkat tke world of numbers and formulas are wkat kave skaped my identity as a matk teacker for many years. But wkat kas really kept me in education for all tkese years is you, my students. Tkere is notking more rewarding tkan tke connections I n\ake every day witk you. Your Warm greetings in tke morning wken you enter tke building, your beautiful smiles and your waves kello wken passing me in tke kails, stopping by my office for a little extra kelp, or to ask a question, or just to ckat — I ckerisk all of tkat. On many occasions, you kave been wkat kas nrade my day. Notking means more to me tkan family and I consider my students and staff my WHS family. Tke years you kave spent kere kave been filled witk many ups and downs. You kave faced ckallenges, struggled witk kaving to make difficult decisions, and sometimes finding yourself a little scared. You kave also kad many reasons to smile and to laugk, to ckeer teams on, to make someone proud. I kope tkat for every moment, wketker difficult or easy, tkere is a beautiful memory to ckerisk. It is not always simple to find tke good in every tking, but it always Wortk it. If I could offer you any advice as you leave WHS, I Would tell you to find sometking to do tkat you love. If you kave a dream, follow it. If you kave a talent, pursue it. If you can, give. You kace muck to offer. Life is beautiful especially if you love wkat you do. You kace made me love wkat I do.
