Students visibly have more school spirit. “Th e importance of being invested in their collegiate experience and what that means for the university is that it has been the springboard that has really motivated our students to get involved,” Director of Student Activities Yonna Pasch said. Th e excitement on campus has been enhanced by the visual additions of purple and white signs around campus. “Th e revamped logos that we use for signage [on campus] are great and I think small touches like that are slowly but surely make our university better,” Student Government Association President Matthew Whittaker said. “Students are even more involved on campus with 112 Registered Student Organizations active on Org Sync compared to last year’s 80,” Pasch said. Pasch believes that the trend has been initiated by the student-centered learning environment that Henderson has created. “Students care more than they have in the past” Whittaker said. “You are hearing their concerns and what they like, you are seeing our students have a voice, and they are not afraid to talk to administration and they’re not afraid to talk to their peers about problems they may be having.” In contrast to years past, administrators and faculty are joining in on the student conversations by responding either in person or online, Whittaker said. Professors are even participating in campus activities and encouraging their students to do the same. “Change doesn’t have to happen now, it has to happen yesterday,” Pasch said regarding how quickly campus changes occur. Henderson’s forward thinking has helped the University move to new heights. “Society is changing and progressing quickly,” Henderson said. “Th e power of social networks promises continual and unpredictable cultural change, but often in positive ways. NSU is preparing students for a world that looks completely diff erent from today.” Regardless of the pace, the changes are helping the university progress into the future and move forward in new directions.
