Visual Story The Arabian Nights Relaxed Performance: 4 January, 7pm This is the outside of the Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh where you will come and see The Arabian Nights When you get inside the foyer you may have to wait here at the Box Office to collect your tickets. This is Jack and Jacqui, they will be the Duty Managers working at the theatre when you come and see the show. They and her team, who will be wearing black and a badge with The Lyceum logo on it, are there if you need help or have any questions on your visit. You’ll be sitting in the stalls, the ground floor of the theatre, it can be busy with lots of people. You can bring drinks and snacks into the theatre. All drinks have to be in a plastic cup or bottle as no glass is allowed in the auditorium. We can provide you with plastic cups if you need them. Please be seated by 7pm At about 7pm the performance will begin A performance is when you watch people called actors tell a story First of all the actors will come onto the stage introduce themselves and the characters they play (the people they pretend to be in the story) After this, it will get slightly darker but the lights will still be on It’s OK if you need to leave during the performance there will be staff available to help you at all times The performance lasts roughly 2 hours with a break of 15 minutes in the middle which we call ‘the interval’. It’s a chance for the actors to have a rest and you to have a walk around, take a break or have something to eat and drink. The characters in the performance Here are pictures of the different actors and the name of the main characters they play. Some actors play more than one character and, so that they look different, they change the way that they move and talk and their costume (a costume is a name for the clothes actors wear on stage). This is Scheherazade, a young girl from the market place. She’s clever, cheeky and funny. The show starts with her introducing us to the market place where she and her friends spend their days. Pictured on the right is Scheherazade’s mother, The Storyteller. She is wise and kind and has a story for every occasion.
