We finally meet the
soon-to-be vampire empress Eden Lockhart. As a dhampire, half human-half
vampire, Eden is a rarity among vampires. Dhampires are rare to begin
with but for one to live to be a healthy adult is even more unheard of.
As a result of her parentage Eden has certain powers and limitations.
Among her powers is a very strong control of Earth’s elements and she is
able to feed off of fire and energy. Her biggest downfall however is
that she isn’t immortal. It may take a bit more to kill her than a
normal human but she can die. Which is not such a good thing when it
appears that the vampire serial killer is ultimately after her. It is
decided that a top notch body guard will be hired to protect her until
the killer is caught.
Enter bodyguard/rouge vampire hunter/former
Texas Slayer Squad member Cameron Zane. After being kicked off the
Texas Slayer Squad for killing a rouge vampire without a warrant,
Cameron went independent, hiring his services out to those in need.
Normally he does not take jobs protecting vampires but a job is a job
and supposedly, Eden is one of the good guys. If there is such a thing
among vampires that is. That particular species is not high on Cameron’s
list for reasons that he does not speak of often. But, while he has
certain opinions of vamps, his dedication to each job is complete and he
will protect Eden with his life if necessary. After meeting Eden and
spending time with her, Cameron’s attitude towards vampires seems to be
changing. He tries to justify this to himself but it is clear that he is
falling hard for her.
The danger to Eden intensifies with
multiple attempts on her life and Cameron whisks her off to a secret
location. But when the killer catches up to them, can they both make it
through alive?
