TheAffinity®ThreeBirthingBedisintendedtobeusedasabirthingbedfor
womenofchildbearingagewithintheacutecareLaborandDeliverymarket.
Itisnotintendedforuseasageneralhospitalbed.
3 Introduction
Thismanualprovidestheinformationrequiredfornormaloperationofthe
Affinity®ThreeBirthingBedfromHill-Rom.BeforeoperatingtheAffinity®
ThreeBirthingBed,besurethatyouhavereadandunderstoodindetailthe
contentsofthismanual.Itisimportantthatyoureadandstrictlyadhereto
theaspectsofsafetycontainedinthismanual.Anyreferencetoasideofthe
bedisfromthepatients’viewlyinginthebedontheirback.

4.2 Battery Backup
TheAffinity®ThreeBirthingBedisdesignedwithbattery
backupasastandardfeature.Thebatteryallowsthe
hilow,foot,andheadmotorstobeactivatedfromthe
siderailcontrolswithoutpowerbeingsuppliedtothebed.
Inaddition,thebatterybackuppowersthenursecall
function,butitdoesnotpoweranyotherbedfunctions,
suchastheoptionalairsupportsystem. BatteryBackup
Indicators
Location: Thebatterybackupindicatorislocatedon
thesiderailtoindicatethebattery
condition.
BatteryBackupLEDIndicators:
(cid:127) ON=Batterystatusisoperational.
(cid:127) FLASHING=Batteryneedscharging.
(cid:127) OFF=Batteryisdischargedbelowthelevelrequiredtorun
themotors.
NOTE:
Ifthebatteryhasbeencompletelydischarged,itmaytakeupto36hoursto
rechargetooperationalstatus.
CAUTION:
Removethebatteryifthebedwillnotbeinserviceforextended
periodsoftime.Failuretodosocouldresultindamagetothelifeof
thebattery,ordamagetothebed.Contacttheappropriate
maintenancepersonnel,andrefertotheAffinity®ThreeBirthing
BedServiceManual(man272).

powersourcewheneverpossible.

Powercomesfromaleadacidbattery,whichneedstobe
disposedofproperlyaccordingtoyourlocalregulations.

maintenancetechnician.

Thelowpositionisforgeneraluseandtoassistwithpatient
egress,whilethehighpositionisusedforpatientprocedures.
Location: Caregiversiderail(righthandandlefthand).
ToActivate:
(cid:127) Pressandholdthe BedUpbuttontoraisethebed.
(cid:127) Pressandholdthe BedDownbuttontolowerthe
bed.
WARNING:
Leavethebedinthelowpositionwhenthepatientis
unattended.Thiscanreducethepossibilityofpatient
fallsandtheseverityofanyresultantinjuries.
NOTE:
Ifthefootsectionisatitslowestpositionwhenthebedislowered,thebed
willstopatahigherpositiontoensurethatthefootsectiondoesnotinterfere
withthebase.
NOTE:
IfthebedisinthelowpositionandtheTrend-Likefunctionisactivated,the
bedwillrisetotheappropriateheighttoallowthebedtomovetothefull
Trend-Likeposition.
