Remove the magazine,a nd cycle the action to cock the intemal hammer. Loosen the front band screw in the lower flanges of the barrel band. 2. Depresst he barrel band lock spring,l ocated on the right side, and slide the banda ndb ayo- net mount unit toward *x the front. The barrel band lock spring shouldo nly be re- moved for repairs: therei s an accessh ole on the opposites idet o drift it out. 3. Moue the upper handguardw ood forward, and lift it off. 4. Tip thea ctionu p- warda t the front, un- hookingi ts rearl ug, andl ift it out of the stock. 5. Backingo ut the screwi n the tail of the recoil platew ill allow removalo f thep lateu pward. 6. Pusho ut the crossp in at the front of the trigger housing,m ove the housingf orward. out of its slotsa t the rear,a nd remove it down- ward. 7. Caution: Thes pringi s unclerh eavyt ension,s o control it as it is removed.R estraint he hammer,p ull the trigger, and easet he hammerd own to the fired position. Insert a drift punch throught he hole in the front of the hammer spring rod, move the rod toward the rear,a nd lift it out of the seati n the hammer. 8. Take out the hammerp ivot pin(towardt he right), and re- movet heh ammeru pward. 9. Inserta smallt ool at ther earo f thet riggerh ousing,a nd gentlyp ull thet riggers pringt owardt her earu ntil it stops, abouta sf ar ass hown. 10. Restraint he sear,i nsidet he trigger hous- ing, and pusho ut the trigger pin toward either side. Removet he sear,s ears pring,a nd trig- ger upward. The seara nd its spring are easily detachedf rom the top of the trigger. 11. After the trigger is removed, the trigger springc an be move forward out of its well at the rear of theh ousinga ndt akeno ut. This springi s undert ension, whenp ushingi t backi nto thet riggerh ousingu nit retaini t or it will be 10st. The magazinec atchhasa plungera nd spring on the right side of the trigger guard. The catch alsoh as a retainingp lungera nd springb ehindi t. This retainingp lunger and springh as a plunger on the back of it which holds the safety. Read over the stepst o disassemblingt he magazinec atcha nd safteyb eforeb eginning. 12. Insert a small screwdriveri nto the hole on the undersideo f the trigger housing,b elow the magazinec atch, and pusht he catchr etainingp lunger toward the rear,h olding it therew hile moving the catcho ut toward the right. Releaseth et ensions lowlyo n ther etaining springa ndp lunger. 13. Remove the magazinec atch plunger and spring out. 14. Removeth er etainingp lungera nd spring(thes prings houldh avea plunger on bothe nds.T het wo plungersa re identicala, ndn eedn ot be kept sepa- rated. 15. Removet he safetyc atcht oward the right. 16. Grip the action slide spring and its guide rod firmly, just behind its front tip, and move it just far enought oward the rear to disengage its front stud from the recesso n the back of the action slide. Tip the rod and spring away from the slide,a nd slowly easet he tension, removing them toward the front. 17. Move the actions lide toward the rear until its inner projectiono n the left side is alignedw ith the exit cut in the barrel groove. Turn the slide toward the left and downward, disengagingth e inner projec- tion from the groove. At the samet ime, the rear lug of the cock- ing handlew ill be alignedw ith its exit cut in the receivert rack, and the action slide canb e removed. 18. Move the bolt forward and lift its right lug upward and toward the right. Rotatet he bolt, and removei t upward andf orward. Disassemblyo f the bolt is easieri f a specialm ilitary tool is used,b ut can be donew ithout it. Read steps 19 & 20 beforeb eginning disassembly.A ll re- Intedp arts held by the extractor are shown to the right. 19. Depresst he extractorp lunger and spring while lifting the extractoro ut. The extractorh as a post that goesa ll the way thought he bolt and will releaset he ejectora nd its spring. 20. Wtrile the extractori s being lifted out, depresso n the ejectora nd releasei t slowly ast he extractorp ost is lifting out. Removet he ejectora nd firing pin from the bolt. 21. Removeo nly for repairs:T herei s a militaryt ool for the gas pistona lso. If you do not havet hep ropert ool,t hen ut canb e dam- aged. Use caution. Unscrewt he nut and remove the piston toward the rear. 22. Thef ront sightc anb e removedb y drifting out its crossp in, andu singa nonm arringp uncht o nudgei t off towardt hef ront . Whent he sighti s takeno ff, be suret he smallk ey insidei s not lost. The barrelb andu nit canb e takeno ff aftert he sighti s removed. ReassemblTyi ps: Bolt: Hold the firing pin and ejectori n placew ith a drift of the proper size from the bottom of the bolt and retain the extractorp lungera nd springa nd then push the extractort hough, carefully. It shoulds lide easily in place,d o not force. During replacemento f the action slide,p osition the bolt as shown,t hen bring the slide onto the bolt lug and move it into place in its track. If it is properly replaced,t he bolt and slide handle will operatew ith ease. lnsert the trigger spring from the front and push it back to the temporary rearp osition ( as showni n step# 9). After the trigger/searu nit is in- stalled,m ove the spring back toward the front, lifting its forward end to drop into the groove at the upper rear of the trigger.
