Wheat: Sales of 583,400 metric tons (MT) were three and one-fifth times the prior week-an improvement from last week's marketing- year low-but were down 8 percent from the 4-week average. Pakistan (142,500 MT) was the major buyer, followed by Japan (98,300 MT), Taiwan (86,900 MT), and Peru (76,100 MT). Exports of 689,300 MT were up 14 percent from the week earlier and 4 percent above the 4-week average. Major increases for South Korea (108,700 MT), China (107,500 MT-switched from unknown destinations), Algeria (79,900 MT), and Egypt (71,300 MT) were partly offset by decreases of 257,500 MT for unknown destinations. Net sales for delivery during the 1995/96 marketing year (which begins Sept. 1) totaled 528,300 MT with Taiwan (172,100 MT), Spain (126,200 MT), and unknown destinations (104,900 MT) accounting for the majority of the activity. Exports of 1,265,000 MT were 7 percent above the week earlier and 2 percent over the 4-week average. Japan (333,300 MT) was the major destination, followed by China (154,300 MT), Egypt (126,300 MT), and South Korea (108,600 MT). Barley: Sales of 114,700 MT were for Saudi Arabia (51,100 MT), Taiwan (33,000 MT), and Japan (30,600 MT). Exports of 82,100 MT were nearly two and three-quarters times the 4-week average. Saudi Arabia (51,100 MT) and Japan (30,900 MT) were the primary destinations. Sorghum: Sales of 69,400 MT were 58 percent above the week earlier and 30 percent over the 4-week average. Mexico (69,000 MT) was the major buyer. Sales of 46,800 MT for delivery in 1995/96 were for Japan (24,400 MT), Mexico (13,400 MT), and Israel (9,000 MT). Exports of 74,500 MT were down one-quarter from the previous week and 12 percent from the 4-week average. Mexico (51,000 MT) and Japan (23,500 MT) were the destinations. Rice: Net sales of 28,200 MT were nearly double the prior week’s level. Indonesia (12,500 MT), Canada (7,600 MT), the Leeward and Windward Islands (2,400 MT), Estonia (2,300 MT), Germany (1,300 MT), and Mexico (900 MT, of which 400 MT was rough) were the primary buyers. In addition, there were reductions of 400 MT of rough rice reported for Turkey. Exports of 50,200 MT were 21 percent less than the week earlier and 2 percent short of the 4-week average. Turkey (21,900 MT) was the major destination, with smaller quantities to Ghana (7,000 MT), the Netherlands (4,300 MT), Saudi Arabia (3,500 MT), the Leeward and Windward Islands (2,500 MT), and Haiti (2,000 MT). Soybeans: Net sales for the current marketing year of 15,200 MT were primarily the result of major increases for the Netherlands (25,600 MT), Barbados (9,000 MT), and Germany (6,000 MT) being partially offset by reductions for unknown destinations (20,300 MT) and Japan (9,200 MT). Sales of 500,700 MT for 1995/96 delivery were primarily the result of increases for unknown destinations (276,500 MT), Japan (61,000 MT), and Mexico (60,000 MT).
