Newly retired Chicago Sun-Times reporter Shana Kahn just can't stop asking intrusive questions, even of family members whom she's only just met. While attending a family reunion brunch in New York's Central Park, Shana gets into an altercation with her two adult daughters. Humiliated when her husband refuses to stand up for her, Shana flees the restaurant, intent on booking a flight home to North Carolina. A sudden torrential rain finds Shana unprepared. When a nice young man invites her to step beneath his umbrella, Shana's trusting response leads to a heinous series of events. Even worse, Shana doubts that her family will attempt to rescue her. Meanwhile, Shana's husband and daughters are beside themselves with guilt and worry. Rachel, seven months pregnant, goes into early labor and is put on hospital bedrest. The NYPD assigns Detective Stella Hernandez to their case, but the kidnapper's trail is cold. In the end, Shana must choose between hate and compassion for her assailant.
