ARTECH aims at bringing the scientific, technological and artistic community together, while promoting the interest in the digital culture and its intersection with art and technology as an important research field, a common space for discussion and exchange of experiences. During three days, researchers, artists and multidisciplinary teams from around the world have the opportunitytoshareideasandtheirworkatARTECH2012. Only two decades ago, interactive digital media seemed like a brand new research field and an emerging new industry. Today, a decade into the new millennium, the digital arts field has comeofageandiscloselyconnectedwithnewdigitalmedia.Acriticalaspectofthedigitalmedia revolutionistheformationofthenewmediaindustrycomprisedofinformation,communication, entertainment, and global social networks. The ARTECH 2012 conference provides in-depth coverage of the important concepts, issues and technology trends in the field of digital arts and media technologies, techniques, and applications. Crossing Digital Boundaries, and seeking to foster greater understanding about digital arts and culture across a wide spectrum of cultural, disciplinary,andprofessionalpractices,isthepurposeofthis6theditionoftheconference. BeinginchargeoforganizingaConferencelikethismeansbothagreathonorandanenormous responsibility for us of matching, at least, the success of previous editions of ARTECH. And we can express nothing more than gratitude for the high acceptance that the call for contributions has produced in the community. We have received 134 submissions from 20 countries (signifi- cantlymorethananypreviousARTECHeditions)thatwerepeerreviewedbytheScientificand ArtCommittee,andresultedin87contributionspresentedattheconference,showingthegreat interestofthecommunityintheARTECHConferenceSeries.Authors’contributionsinclude35 full papers, 29 short papers, 16 posters, and 7 art installations, a key component in ARTECH Conferences,tofosterinteractionwithdigitalarttechnologyandamongparticipants.Moreover, wehavetwohighlyremarkableinvitedkeynotespeakersfromacademiaandindustry.Andthis year,forthefirsttime,theconferencealsofeaturestutorialsandworkshops,inapre-conference day, contributing to provide more opportunities for sharing knowledge and experiences in the field. The ARTECH 2012 book of proceedings is a comprehensive collection of papers that present current research and perspectives, and future trends, in digital arts, encompassing the founda- tions, technologies, applications, and emerging elements of this exciting field, from researchers and experts in the field, corresponding to the authors’ contributions to the conference. These are organized in the categories of: invited keynote talks, full papers, short papers, posters, art installations,andtutorials.Paperscoverawiderangeoftopicsreflectedinthesessionstheyare presented at the conference: Art and Science Theory; Sound and Music Computing; Technology Mediated Dance; Multiple Media and Synesthetic Perceptions; Media Art and Creativity; Visu- alization and New Perspectives; New Experiences and Narratives in Interactive Art; Enabling Technologies; Web Art and Digital Culture; Augmented Reality and Immersive Art; Learning, ArtandDigitalCulture;andGenerativeandAlgorithmicArtandDesign.
