In particular | would like to congratulate the members of the graduating class. | hope you will en- joy the change from the Faculty to the world of articling and work. | also hope you will look back on your years here with a sense of accomplishment and pride. You have worked hard to earn your LL.B. Take a moment from your hectic schedule to flip through the pages of this book and reflect upon the good times you had with your friends in the relatively calm days of law school. Over the past year our students and faculty managed a number of significant achievements. Erin Nelson was awarded the Governor General’s Silver Medal, a first for a law student. Natasha Affolder was named a Rhodes Scholar. Chip Johnston was named top oralist at the Gale moot. Professor David Percy won the prestigious Kennedy Memorial Prize for his contribution over the years to legal education. | am sure many of David's students will want to congratulate him on this lifetime achievement. As you leave this law school | hope you will realize you have been here at a turning point. The last year has been an important one in the life of the Faculty. We have built a team of dedicated graduates who are undertaking the first ever, major alumni fund campaign in support of the Fa- culty. We are very lucky to have supporters like the co-chairs, the Honourable Tevie Miller, Gary Campbell, Q.C., and Rod McLennan, Q.C., and the many other talented alumni who have come forward to help us. The campaign received a very big boost when Angus Bickerton and Kevin Helfand presented a cheque in the amount of $10,000.00 to the President of the University and the campaign co-chairs. The funds will be used to endow the Kelly Jenkins Prize. The enthusiastic participation of current students and recent graduates is vital for the success of the campaign - which will, in turn, guarantee the ongoing presence and enhancement of this law faculty. It is our hope that the campaign will lead to new era of strengthened relations between the faculty, the bar and the bench. | hope you will help us to build this bridge. As we enter the Faculty’s 75th Anniversary year it is important to note that the Faculty is increas- ingly national in its focus. This year over two thirds of our applicants were from out of province and one third of the students admitted to first year were non-Alberta residents. Some twenty five percent of the graduates this year have gone on to article outside of Alberta. These figures would not likely have been forseen by the founders of the Faculty. They, no doubt, envisaged a small law school serving mainly local needs. The fact we have grown into a major national law school is a tribute to the work of many people over many years. As we enter our 75th year we think about the rich legacy which was left by our predecessors and we look confidently to the future. | All Biest. w ishes, we L.N. Klar, Associate Dean J.M.
