With a view to promoting closer contacts of the Archaeological Survey of India with Indian Universities conducting archaeological researches and other institutions carrying out studies related to application of archaeological principles, training future archaeologists, and providing for closer association of learned societies in India and of the State Governments with the activities of the Archaeological Survey of India, the President is pleased to reconstitute the Central Advisory Hoard of Archaeology for a period of four years from the September 30, 1998 with the following composition and functions : COMPOSITION : Chairman I. Additional Director General, Archaeological Survey of India. V Joint Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Culture (dealing with AS1 ) VI. Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forest, Department of Environment. VII. Chairman, University Grants Commission. VIII Director General Council of scientific and Industrial research IX Director General, National Museum X. Director General, Anthropological Survey of India. XI. Director General of Tourism, Government of India. XII. Surveyor General, Survey of India. 5 XIII. Chief Engineer, Central Public Works Department. XIV. Chief Planner, Town and Country Planning Organisation, Ministry of Urban Development. XV. Director, School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi XVI. Three Members of Parliament, one elected from Rajya Sabha and two elected from Lok Sabha (to be notified separately by the respective Secretariats). XIX. FUNCTIONS The Board shall advise the Government of India on matters relating to archaeology in India referred to it by its members. It may also make suggestions on such matters for the consideration of the Government. The Board may set up sub Committees, as and when necessary, to examine and report on specific issues before it. 2. The Board shall meet once in a year, the date/s and venue of the meeting to be decided by the Chairman. 3. The tenure of the Members of Parliament elected to be members of the Board shall be limited to the tenure of their Membership of the House which elected them. 4. The President is also pleased to order that the Central Advisory Board of Archaeology shall set up a Standing Committee with the following composition and functions. 8 THE GAZETTE OF INDIA EXTRAORDINARY [PART 1—SEC. 1] COMPOSITION : CHAIRMAN and CONVENOR Director General, Archaeological Survey of India. Five members of the Board to be elected by the members of the Board from amongst themselves. FUNCTIONS : The Standing Committee shall advise this Board generally on the promotion of archaeological pursuance in the country, consider all reports and items referred to it and express its views on the agenda for the Board's meeting and perform such other functions as the Government or the Chairman of the Committee may assign to it. It may set up sub-committees as and when necessary with power to co-opt. It may meet not more than twice a year. ORDER Ordered that a copy of the Resolution be communicated to all concerned.
