ELECTION COMMISSION OF INDIA
NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 21st January, 1997
O. N. 21 (E).—Whereas, the Election Commission in its notification No. 100/UP-HP/l/97(2) dated the 13th January,
1997 issued under Section 30 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951) had :
(1) Fixed the 23rd January, 1997, as the last date for withdrawal of candidature in the 81-Baghpat Parliamentary
Constituency;
(2) 6th February, 1997 as the date on which poll, if necessary, shall be taken in the above said constituency;
(3) 12th February, 1997 as the date before which the election shall be completed in the above constituency;
and
Whereas, Government of India has declared 23rd January, 1997 (Thursday) as a National Holiday on account of the
birth centenary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose under Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 (26 of 1881), and ;
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 30 read with section 153 of the Representation of
the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951) the Election Commission hereby reschedules the stages from the last date for withdrawal of
candidatures to the completion of the poll in respect of the bye-election as under :—
(A) the 24th January, 1997 (Friday), as the last date for the withdrawal of candidatures ;
(B) the 8th February, 1997 (Saturday), as the date on which a poll shall, if necessary, be taken; and
(C) the 16th February, 1997 (Sunday), as the date before which the election shall be completed.
