NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 13th January, 1997
O. N. 9(E).—Whereas a vacancy has occurred En the House of the People by reason of death of Sh. Basant Singh
Khalsa, a member elected to that House from 7-Ropar (SC) Parliamentary Constituency;
Now, therefore, in pursuance of the provisions of sub-section (1) read with Sub-Section (2) of Section 149 of the
Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951), the Election Commission hereby calls upon the said Constituency to elect
a member belonging to the Scheduled Caste to fill the said vacancy before 13th February, 1997 in accordance with the provi-
sions of the said Act and of the Rules and Orders made thereunder.

NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 13th January, 1997
O. N. 10(E).—In pursuance of the provisions of Section 30 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of
1951), the Election Commission hereby appoints, with respect to the bye-election to be held in 7-Ropar (SC) Parliamentary
Constituency in the State of Punjab in pursuance of its Notification No. l00/PB-HP/1/96 (1), dated the 13th January, 1997:—
(a) the 20th January, 1997 (Monday), as the last date for making nominations;
(b) the 21st January, 1997 (Tuesday), as the date for the scrutiny of nominations;
(c) the 23rd January, 1997 (Thursday),as the last date for the withdrawal of candidature;
(d) the 6th February, 1997 (Thursday),as the data on which a poll shall, if necessary, be taken ; and
(e) the 13th February, 1997 (Thursday), as the date before which the election shall be completed.

O. N. 11(E).—In pursuance of Section 56 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951), the Election
Commission hereby fixes the hours from 7.30 A.M. to 4.30 P.M. as the hours during which the poll shall, if necessary, be taken
for the bye-election to the House of the People from 7-Ropar (SC) Parliamentary Constituency in pursuance of its notification
No. 100/PB-HP/1/96 (1) dated the 13th January, 1997.
