Approximately95%ofConcordia’sstudentsareCanadiansand5%areInternationalstudents. Approximately15%ofConcordiastudentslistFrenchastheirmothertongue. Morethan4,000studentsayeararegranteddegreesatthegraduateandundergraduatelevels. Over500studentsearnscholarshipsandfellowships. Concordiaemploysabout3,000people,bothfull-timeandpart-time,including696full-timeprofessors, 958part-timeinstructors,and33professionallibrarians.Amongthepart-timeinstructorsisalarge numberofprofessionalsdrawnfromtheartisticcommunityandthebusinessworld. Forthelastfiscalyear,thevalueofgrantsandcontractsallottedtoConcordiaresearchersisinthe amountof15milliondollars.ParticularlyactiveareasofresearcharePsychology,Electrical Engineering,MechanicalEngineering,andComputerScience.OtherresearchstrengthsareBuilding Studies,TransportationEngineering,CellandMolecularBiology,BehaviouralNeurobiology,Human DevelopmentandManagementStudies. Concordiarecognizestheincreasingimportanceofinternationalacademicrelationsanditoperatesa CentreforInternationalAcademicCooperationtoencourage,monitorandco-ordinatetheUniversity’s internationalactivities.Duringthepastdecade,Concordiaprofessorshavetravelledtomorethan 100countries,andConcordiacontinuestoplayhosttovisitingstudentsandprofessorsfromevery corneroftheglobe.FormallinkageshavebeenestablishedwithuniversitiesinBrazil,thePeople’s RepublicofChina,France,theFederalRepublicofGermany,HongKong,India,Israel,Japan,the Netherlands,Poland,TrinidadandTobago,theUnitedStatesandZimbabwe.Researchandstudy programmeshavealsobeenheldinCostaRica,GreatBritain,Greece,andItaly,amongothers. TheUniversityholdsthedistinctionofbeingthefirstinthewesternworldtoestablishajointdoctoral programmewithauniversityinThePeople’sRepublicofChina,andConcordiaisstillactiveinthat country.FormalexchangeprogrammeshavebeenestablishedwitheightofthePRC’sleading academicinstitutions.Asaconsequence,ConcordiaprofessorsnowtraveltoChinatoteachPhD coursesinCivilEngineering,ComputerScience,andagrowingarrayofotherdisciplinesinthearts, sciencesandengineering.
