This anthology - "Ukraina Alpona" - is the first attempt to develop a direct Ukrainian-Indian literary connection, thanks to Dr. Mridula Ghosh, a well known political scientist, expert on culture and a sincere friend of Ukraine with a unique sense of its language. Although it does not include all of the famous names in Ukrainian poetry - after all, this is only a first 'acquaintance' - no one in this collection is 'second-string' or superfluous. Also worthy of note is the care Ms. Ghosh has taken to avoid repetition in showing the vibrant philosophical and lyrical diversity of motive, and in concentrating on works that celebrate the spirit and universal humanist attributes of Ukrainian poetry.
