InI995and1998,oneoftheauthors(S.B)collectedaseriesofspecimensofun- known tenebrionidspecies fromtheCameronHighlands, theMalayPeninsula. in the evening and after midnight in thesamemicrohabitat. 0nespecimen was captured usingalighttrapinthesamearea.Hefoundtheminyellowrottedbutdriedplacesofa largelivingtreeandonthetreesnearby.Thishabitatwas foundina forestabout200m belowthetopof theJasarMountains. InSumatra,asecondspecieswascollectedat nightinaforest.Allthespecimenswerefoundfromthebarkofalarge,oldtree,which wasrelatively freeofinjuryorrottedspots.Later,whentheauthorsvisitedtheZoolo- gischeStaatssammlung,Munich.Dr.MartinBAEHRpermittedthemtoloanadditional materials. Theyaresimilar intheirbodystructuretotheadultsofSt1・o11gyliun1andtothe Coe1ometopinaeamongothers.Thesecondauthorwasunabletodeterminetheirtaxo- nomicposition,andaskedthefirstauthor(K.M)forcollaborationinclarifyingtheir trueidentity. Theyspentabout two years for determining their taxonomicposition, withadviceoftheircolleaguespecialistsoftheTenebrionidae.Finallytheyconcluded that these two species were new toscience and belonged to a new genus of the Strongyliini. Notes. Inthemembersofthisnewgenus,thebody iscommonlysubfusiformin dorsalviewandratherstronglyconvexabove,theheadisrathersteeplydeclinedante- riad, theantennaeareratherslenderwithstellatesensorialpores inapicalsegments, andlegsareratherslender,whichsuggest that they belongto thetribeStrongyliini. However,thepronotumisverypeculiarinshapeasnotedabove. In theEastAsianmembersof theStrongyliini,Phymatosonlapossessesrather subfusiformbody,butitspronotumisquitesimpleinshape,ratherflattenedandsub- quadrate.Membersofthespecies-groupofSt1,o17gyliun1pa11idonotatlm1Pfc,1917,also possessconvexsubfusiformbody,but theirpronotum isneitherstronglynarrowedin thebasalpartnorridgedalongthelateralmargin,andnotcompressedfrombothsides. Bremerianuscanterollellsissp nov (Figs.1,3-4) Darkbrown,headandpronotumexcept foreachbasalpartbrownishblack,mouth parts,sixbasalsegmentsofantennae,apical halfofterminal one, and tarsi yellowish brown;dorsalsurfacegentlyshining,ventralsurfaceratheralutaceous,eachsurface coveredwithhairs, thoseondorsal surface finer anddarker, those in lateral parts longerandpaleyellowish.Bodyoblong-ovate,ratherstronglyconvexdorsad. Headsubhypognathous, ratherelliptical inantero-dorsa1view, closelypunctate; clypeussemicircular, flattenedinbasalpart,bentventrad inmiddle, andtruncateat apex; fronto-clypea1border finelyandclearlysulcate;genaegentlyraisedandroundly producedantero-1atera preocularareasfeeblyconcave; fronsratherwidelyT-shaped, steeplyinclinedanteriad,shallowlyconcavealongmidlineinposteriorpart,interocular spaceabouthalfthewidthofthetransversediameterofaneye;vertexweaklyconvex.
