Abstract Twonewsubspeciesof thesubgenusApotomopterus(genusCarabuss.
lat)aredescribed fromsouthwesternHubei,China,under the namesCarabus (Apoto-
mopterus)arrowikurosawaianussubspnovandC.(A)cyanopteruskanekoisubsp nov.
Thecarabid faunaofthesouthwesternpartofHubeiProvinceinCentralChina
hasbeenknownonly fragmentarily. Through thecourtesyof Mr.Jun-IchiroKANEKo
(Gunma),werecentlyhadanopportunitytoexamineashortseriesofcarabidbeetles
collectedfromXianfengXiannearthesouthwesternendofthesameprovince.These-
ries contained two species belonging tothesubgenusApotomopterus of thegenus
Carabus (s lat). They havebeen identifiedasC. (A) arrow1HAUSERandC.、(A)
cyanopterusHAUSER,thoughreadilydiscriminated fromall thehithertoknown races
ofeachspecies. Wearegoingtodescribethemasnewsubspecies in the following
lines.Anewraceofarrow1isdedicated tothelateDr. YoshihikoKUROSAWA,whohas
beenwell-knownasaneminentspecialistoftheBuprestidae,andalsoanenthusiast for
allsortsoflargeandbeautiful insectsincludingCarabus.

This new subspeciesismost closelyalliedtosubsp hector HAUSERdescribed
from“Liang-tow-tang”(=Liangshizhen [面市 ] inShaodong Xian召[ 京ﾉ ]) of
CentralHunan,butisdistinguishablefromHAUSERs' racebydifferentlycoloreddorsal
surface,moretransversepronotumwithscarcelyprotrudenthindangles,shorterand
robusterelytra,longerandalittlemorestronglyconvexprimarycallosities,andalittle
more deeply emarginatepreapica1part of femaleelytra. From subsp arrogant1o「
DEuvEofnortheasternGuangxi,thenewraceisdiscriminatedbymuchdiffe「entlyCol-
oreddorsalsurface,shorterantennae, largerprimarycallositiesofelytra, less「ema「k-
ablymeanderingsecondarycarinaeofelytra,alittlerobusteraedea9us,etc.Male9eni-
tatorganasshowninFig 5.

Length:26.0-29.0mm(includingmandibles).Entirelyblackthoughdimlytinged
withbrownpurplishlustrealongelytra1margins.
Rathersmall-sizedraceforthespecies,withheterodynameelytra1sculpture.Dis-
tinguishableataglancefromsuchsubspecieswithhomodynameelytra1sculptureas
nominotypica1cyanopterusHAUSER, dabamontanusIMURAandmelandetosIMURAet
MlzUsAwA.Fromsubsp.shanliangensisIMURAetSU,whichbearsheterodynameely-
tra1sculpture, thenew form isdiscriminatedby alittlesmoother pronota1surface,
longerandlessstronglyconvexelytrawithweakerpreapica1emarginationin female,
andlargerprimary foveoleswhichinvadetheadjacent tertiary intervalsmorepromi-
nently. Malegenitaliaasshown inFig 6, with theapical lobenarrower and less
stronglybentventradthaninthenominotypica1subspecies

Derivatio nominis. ThisnewsubspeciesisnamedafterMr.Jun-IchiroKANEKo
(Gunma).
要 約
井村有希・水沢清行:中国湖北省南西部におけるトゲオサムシの2新亜種. - 中国湖北省
南西部から得られたアロウトゲオサムシとァオバネトゲオサムシを新亜種と認め, それぞれに
subsp kurosawaianusnovおよびsubsp kanekoinov.という名を与えて記載した. いうまでもなく
前者は, ご専門のタマムシのみならずオサムシを含む大型美麗昆虫をこよなく愛された, 故・
黒澤良彦博士に捧げたものである.
