College students get pulled in so many different directions we sometimes won- der — will it ever end. Unfortunately, yes. College lasts a few years for most of us, so seize the day, make the most of your oppor- tunities here at MC,a nd have the time of your life! — Beth Gallaspy, Collegian Editor "To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven." Ecclesiastes 3:1 - y-ekVoevvetA, Merkre Pct/ki "Move-in day was a day tilled wad mixed emotions — Excitement, joy, curiosity, fear, and anxiety! Thoughts of new freedoms AND responsibilities filled my head as I unloaded my packaged life and entered my future home (which also seemed to be packaged!). SOME pressure was relieved, as I already knew my roommate, but the sea of unfamiliar faces was frightening. Everyone seemed to be rushing around from rooms to meetings to first-time cafeteria adventures with glazed and unsure looks on their faces, and many of us were found clinging to our parents more than ever! The first day of college life is definitely one to remember; it is a time when everyone is thrown together to seek out new friends and build new relationships. The only comfort that one has is that we're all in the same boat!!" Carrie Bevell (pictured with Carrie is her roommate, Cathy Whiteway.) 2 ! The activities took place during the months of September and October. All rushees took part in the rituals done by both the social tribes and service clubs. Every year on Squeal Night all the pledges from the girls tribes are sent screaming across campus to meet the actives and other pledges of the tribes. After cheering and chanting for what seemed an eternity, the pledges were met outside by the members of the men's service clubs. The guys carried the kicking and yelling girls to the soccer field where they threw them in a huge pit of mud. very few guys got away without being pulled in themselves. After trying to get the mud off, the pledges went back to their rooms only to find everything covered with confetti, can- dy, signs, and streamers. Under all that there were gifts from the pledges big sisters. — written by Elizabeth Book, Sophomore _ The highlight of the evening was watching Student Body President, Heath Hilman and Dean of Men, General Coleman get thrown in the mud! Don't worry guys, Rebecca Dyk- stra is here to save you!! "I Love America Day" is now in its 13th year as a featured event at Mississippi College. This occasion represents an October Fourth of July, helping us, America's future, to gain a better understanding of how wonderful our country re- ally is. America's greatness is due to the oppor- tunities available to all Americans to achieve any goal they wish. These opportunities are not in- alienable rights or guarantees, they are only chances to work towards the possibility of suc- cess. The highlight of this year's event was having Mrs. Kirk Fordice, First Lady of Mississippi, as our keynote speaker during chapel. Entertain- ment was provided by the Naturals and Priority during lunch and the day was closed with a fire- work display. Carpe Diem or "Seize the day" should be the motto for our lives. Unlike many countries today, a successful future is at our fingertips. I urge you to make the most of it.
