This year has already flown by so quickly; I at Transliving have already been to a few events and am looking forward to the Rocky Horror show in a week’s time. Hopefully I will get some photos for the next issue. In this issue we have all the memories of things that have happened this year; the lovely Jessica Alice is now our Miss Transliving for the year and a spectacular Cover Girl she makes too. I am planning an article for the next issue on Male Domestic Violence (DV); how to support men who have suffered and been ignored. The Johnny Depp / Amber Heard trial has thrown much light on this issue. In the past I have had CDs and other people in the Trans-world calling me for assistance after a partner has subjected them to domestic abuse. Forty years ago I was a survivor of DV and there was really no help then. We now have (though not enough) shelters for women, but men seem to stand alone with this. If you have a story to tell I would love to hear it - you may of course remain anonymous. A young man on YouTube is taking this very seriously: Stevie J Raw. He is in Australia, where it appears there is nothing to support men suffering DV. I want to help and try to find world acceptance for men; they should not have We’re here to help 9am to 8pm daily on: to stand alone. It had broken its wheel on the way here from the station and was now protesting loudly. I guess I packed too many clothes, but I wanted to have everything that I needed for the weekend. Trouble was, as this was my first one away, I wasn’t quite sure what that meant. I pushed open the glass doors and scanned the crowed for someone that I recognised. A pointless exercise it seems, as I later found out it didn’t matter who you sat next to, everyone seemed friendly and happy enough to chat. It didn’t seem to matter what time of the day it was either, there was always somebody about. I found what I was looking for, a few of the ladies I knew from the club nights. We exchanged greetings for a few minutes before heading over to the reception desk to check in. The lady at the desk had a smile on her face, because it turns out, the staff don’t just tolerate us being in the hotel, they actually look forward to these weekends. They enjoy seeing us dressed up in all of our beautiful clothing and interesting themed-night outfits, which makes for a lovely change to their normal working days. And it shows through in their warmth and attitudes towards us. I collected my key, and found the room that would become my home for the next few days. The majority of my time in the room would be spent in front of the mirror, getting ready for the various events and dinners I would partake in that weekend. After unpacking, I began the process of beautifying myself in preparation for dinner. A simple outfit to start with, one of the new Transliving tops paired with a black skater skirt. Then I headed down to dinner. The restaurant was quite fancy with high ceilings, chandeliers, lovely staff and food that exceeded my expectations. Three courses later and I was back in my room for a quick change into my outfit for the first of the themed evenings - Gatsby - a kind of high class 1920’s look. I wore a black dress with deco detailing on the front, opera gloves which came up over the elbows, and added a feathered headband to complete the look. Part of the fun of the themes lay in the preparation, spending the weeks or even months before crafting the look and putting it all together. Walking downstairs into the club - and the night was already underway, with the DJ playing a variety of tunes and the ladies dressed in some fabulous outfits - I was so there was no pressure to do so, not with any of the events. jealous of the girls who had managed to find dresses with You seemed to be free to dress as much or as little as you tassels on. There were quite a few of us in Gatsby, but liked the whole weekend. www.transliving.co.uk Page 7 One great night later socialising and I decided to get an Day three, and how could things possibly be as good as ‘early night’; I was a bit tired and it was 1:30am the day before?
