On behalf of the local organizing committee of the 8th World Congress of the International Health Economics Association, I welcome you to Toronto, a city that derived its name from a word in the local Huron dialect meaning “place of meetings.” So, it is appropriate that we are meeting together in an emerging world-class city. The issues surrounding this trend have been a major part of the literature for the last two decades.
